Yeah if you google "top PSA autograph screw ups" your confidence in their certification services might take a hit. Hell they certified an auto on a boxing card issued in 1948 of a guy who died in 1946. Hard to sign a card when your dead but maybe voodoo was involved.

From what I know of their grading services they are fairly well regarded in vintage, but the original guy/s left and since then they've fallen off in popularity and now PSA/BGS are the big two. I very rarely see anything approaching modern in a SGC slab. At least not in hockey/basketball.

Most autographs are around $10 per but they constantly have monthly specials. Some are designated as premium though. SGC Grading Scale

Steinersport has a few basketballs for sale that look like the autos from Panini era 2013-2016,
I emailed them about it, and below is the reply, all in person autos ![]() ![]()

If you are an autograph expert, You look for certain charateristics, which are unmistakenable and consistent.
So far, all the "in person" ones, including the Steiner's one above, are signed with q loop crossing itself over; but the late Panini ones for last three years are have q as a spiral and never cross itself. Also look at the first stroke, the "in-person" ones, after horizontal line it goes to right down direction; but fake ones always circle back and give a strong left tick (reverse nike logo). "In person" (including latest Panini in-person) vs "Panini last three years" have been very consistent in this aspect; there are so many "in person" sessions spread across last three years from different companies and different occasions; and yet Shaq (in "in person" sessions) and his ghost signers (for Panini cards of last three years) have been remarkably consistent in last two characteristics in strokes I pointed out above. It is as plain as it gets, and now it's a matter of whether to accept the truth and when. |

Just to be clear... is it the verdict that the Shaq/Kobe dual autos were ghost signed by an associate of Mr. Oneal?

the 1 thing i've always noticed about shaq's autograph is that he always puts his jersey # on them. literately none of the questionable panini autographs have his jersey # on them.
FYI Shaq is very well known to use a ghostsigner for TTM Autographs |

Has anyone compared Shaq's TTM autos to the questionable certifieds? The fact that he started signing TTM's heavily, and seemingly out of nowhere, is the smoking gun to me.

I think that it's unlikely that a company as big as Panini would let this slide under the radar, but it is something to be considered.
It would be extremely disappointing. I will say that in different situations, that even my own signature has its own variations based on if I'm tired, or at a weird angle, sitting vs standing, in a rush, etc etc. So the variations could just be from something simple as he's on his hundredth auto in a row, or whatever. Anyways, still interesting to consider. |
