I assume they’ll have to pick up most of it regardless. Given that, I don’t see them trading him for nothing unless he tries to force his way out. He’s not that kind of player. He also doesn’t have any leverage given his inability to stay on the field.

I’m not sure too many teams would want to absorb Trouts humongous contract at this point. Too many years left at too much per year and don’t forget he only suited up for 50% of games this year… would the Angels eat any of the contract?

Will be interesting to see if anyone gives and takes on this. The Angels willing to be the nice guy and give? I dont see it. I dont see real contenders looking to add an aging overpaid player for the price tag that will be attached. This could get really interesting or completely a waste of time if Trout doesn't push for it.

I agree - probably something like the Rangers getting Scherzer for Luisangel Acuna.

I’m for sending him to ANY contender ( except Houston ). Let’s see this great player FINALLY have a good shot at getting a critic silencing ring!

he HAS to ask for a trade.

If he doesn't that will tell you his true intention of just sitting back, getting paid and not playing meaningful baseball for at least the next 5 years. That trade deadline really set this team back. The Angels have a bottom 5 minor league ranking so they really don't have much to bring up to help. They tried the Ohtani, Trout, Rendon thing and that didn't work. Odds are Ohtani probably moves on... if he's smart. You can't rely on Rendon and Trout isn't getting any younger. If he says he doesn't want traded... he just wants to play for the money and no interest in playing for anything bigger.

His slow returns from injury and IMO he never really says or does anything that says he is all in to win

Lol!!!! I have no idea!!!!

He's got to but I don't know if he will.

He said he is going to have "discussions" during the off season. I rather him be more upfront and straight forward.

I know nobody here follows Angels baseball but the leader of the team is Mike Moosetakas. Its never been Trout. It was Weaver ---> Pujols ---> nobody ---> Moosetakas.

Trout NEEDS to tell Arte Moreno he wants out. He can't hint it or beat around the bush. Ask for a trade and restructure the contract (take a pay cut) to go to a contender.

Nobody would want that lifeless average overpaid scrub.

Even if he wants a trade the Angels won't make it happen. The asking price will be too high and they will say they tried.

seems like a realistic Trout trade at this point would be something along the lines of what the Reds got for Luis Castillo, maybe a bit more if the Angels were willing to pay off $45-60 million of his deal.

I could see something along the lines of Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel coming back to Anaheim.

Only if he still wants to play.

DH saved Bryce Harper's career, may save Trout too.

I would think most teams would make him DH at this point

Agree. If Im a contender that's willing to take on that contract...he's a DH only. He can take it or leave it.

I think this is the way.

They come out with this statement.

Months from now Trout says he wants a trade after Eagles finish the season.

Angels ask for 89 players and you cover the contract.

Everyone says no.

Angels say... well..... we tried.

Welcome back Mikey!!!!!

Does that mean Ohtani is gone ? How many games has Trout missed over just the past 3 season ? Trout has only 1,007 Plate Appearances over the past 3 seasons (336 per year). Trout needs a healthy year next season otherwise teams will be leery of wanting him.

He's averaged 79 games a season over the last 3. He's missed 1.5 seasons in the last 3

Who at this point would trade for Trout?

He will be 33 next year with a nearly $37 million-a-year contract for the next 7 years, averaging just 262 at-bats over the last 4 years. Let's not forget the fact he had the worst year of his career. Also, he has had multiple injuries most likely will hamper his career from this point on.

The angels are stuck with him just like they were with Albert.

The Dale Murphy comparison...

Age 32 Dale Murphy

.279 Batting Average
1555 hits
310 hrs
927rbis
732 walks
145 steals
2x MVP
5 gold glove
1 single post season series (3 hits)

Age 32 Mike Trout

.301 Batting Average
1624 hits
368 hrs
940 RBIs
964 walks
206steals
3x MVP
0 gold gloves
1 single post season series (1 hit)

Dale Murphy's career was completely derailed after age 31 due to injuries. Mike Trout now is dealing with frequent injuries that are derailing his career.
