FACTORY MIS-PRINT, NO GRADE, NO CHARGE

So much for getting this placed in a PSA slab. PSA has managed to grade other red refractor errors of Ohtani's numbered /25 for 2018 Topps Chrome but for whatever reason they won't grade this one. Ah well, guess she'll just stay naked because Beckett is just not an option I want to explore.

Will pick up my orders next weekend at the Long Beach Expo. I'll take it around the show and see what value I can get in trades.

Why didn’t they grade it?

This has honestly been the reason why I never picked up the error red. It's a great looking card but there is no guarantee people look at it the same way as present (or even just a few years ago). PSA not recognizing it going forward is kind of crummy and doesn't help.

Still a BEAUTIFUL auto and color. Hope you get something you really want for it .

I look forward to a conversation with PSA and hearing their explanation for not grading this card but their willingness to grade multiple non-auto red refractors #’d to 25 in that year’s same Topps Chrome set. I bought this because I’m a sucker for red, the beautiful auto with an “8” and the fact it’s numbered 8/25, I have an 8 obsession. We’ll see what happens at the show.

Onward and Upward!

Well, the TCU red /25s were on the checklist. This card was never on the checklist but acknowledged by Topps that they messed up and printed a run of /25 red instead of orange.

PSA will usually grade a card if they can get documentation from the manufacturer that it was a legitimate card. That seems to be why they were grading it till recently. However, the rejection of your card suggests either 1) PSA changed their stance and no longer acknowledges this card since it's an error, 2) the person cataloging in the ID phase didn't know about the error and rejected it because it wasn't on the checklist even though it's an acceptable card.

PSA has suddenly stopped grading specific cards in the past for whatever reason. It happens.

Don't be so sure, if they don't make the Shohei/Decoy card, anything can (not) happen...

This was the one that got a few posts earlier in the thread speculating about whether it was a bad scanner, a scuffed or cracked slab, etc. The good news is, in hand, it seems perfectly fine!

Great pickup for the price. I debated it but that scan was dreadful. Congrats!

I was certain the card was jacked up, but you won the gamble. Congrats!

Yep, thanks. I figured it was worth a roll of the dice.

I did NOT roll the dice on that US1 batting from COMC that ended the other night with 'surface impressions' or however they described it, but no real pictures to show the problem. But I was sorely tempted.

I was tempted as well but stayed away.

COMC only calls out the most extreme of defects so you can bet that US1C was messed up.
