My wife and I went down to the fire station last night as she wanted help with inventory. We had to go through the EMS supplies on the EMS utility and the fire apparatus. The new Chief wants the soon to expire stuff to come off those pieces and go onto the ambulances as they aren't used as much for EMS calls as the ambulances. We had to switch a bunch of stuff out and throw a ton of stuff out. It's obvious the fire side wasn't doing a proper check off job every week as there was medical supplies on the engines that expired in 2009.

Next up, I need to help her today with developing an Excel spreadsheet to track all supplies on hand in the store room and on the apparatus with expiration dates so she can better order stuff when needed.

They are also working on the fire prevention trailer for the upcoming Southern MD VFA parade in April, so they want some under construction photos taken.

We are not allowed to use expired medical supplies. We can actually be shutdown by the county for it. We also aren't allowed to donate expired medical supplies. They must be disposed of; no matter how wasteful that seems.
