Who cares what their supervisors would make. $15 per hour is outrageous. One of the stupidest ideas ever. (Told ya fiscally conservative).

2 main problems with $15 minimum wage.

1. Will cause prices of all goods to go up.

2. The people that want to stay below the poverty line will just ask for less hours so they can continue to get their benefits.

This will be extremely bad for the economy. Well until these businesses smarten up and get technology to replace these unskilled jobs.

If they did this, they'd essentially force all wages/salaries up. Which in turn would cause inflation.

It's really that simple

I'm ok with this...over a 10 year period. It will never work or happen in the near future. That 4.99 big mac will jump to 8.99. But hey, they will have more money in their pocket to be able to afford it right?

One thought that always runs through my mind when this discussion comes up. Americans shop for the cheapest product right? Haven't we brought this on ourselves? Competition and low margins are what got us in to this position. To all of the sudden think this can be corrected with a huge minimum wage increase is naive.

That is why I am a big proponent of doing everything we possibly can to bring jobs back to America. It opens more doors instead of having a "career" in the fast food industry.

Wonder how welfare benefits (amounts and eligibility) would be impacted if $15 minimum wage

"A mother of 4 working with today's minimum wage can't put food on table and stay above the poverty line"

Not including mothers who had some unforeseen tragedy happen or quadruplets, other mothers of 4 should not be the breadwinners.

I see this in the industry I work in. In parts of the country (California and Washington mainly) where wages are high most all production is now done mechanically/robotically. Here in Texas it is still done with unskilled labor. 8 dollars an hour here versus 15+ an hour there.

Agreed
And #4 should improve with massive welfare reform - recipients required to work for their government assistance until employment is achieved. Generational welfare must end.

I agree that those capable of working should.

For there to be an end to generational welfare, we would essentially have to sterilize the severely mentally ill prior to them having children.

Notes on a convention:
1) Fun to see Howard Dean reprise his "rant" of states we're going to for comic effect.
2) Bernie-or-busters seems to have gotten most of it out of their system.
3) Smooth sailing tonight, should be a small bounce in the polls with bigger ones to follow the next two nights.

The debates should effectively end it, although I fully expect Trump to try to weasel his way out of them. He couldn't even handle Chris Matthews one on one. Three questions in a row had the Donald advocating punishment for women who had abortions. While most Republicans pretend to not be in favor that, Trump didn't even know enough to play along. There's no way he can catch up enough on all of the issues that will be brought up in the debates to sound even slightly knowledgeable about them. Love or hate Hillary, she's been living this stuff for a long time now.

Already started, there's a company in CA. that's using a machine to make pizza.
Zume is the name of the company.

If its Hillary related, I think she's done. Is it too late to change the Democratic nominee to Sanders?

There's no greater barrier of employment to the low skilled than a high minimum wage. Clearly an employer would pay more for skilled employees, but having an arbitrary barrier than forces them to pay all employees at a price floor that is artificially high keeps the lowest skilled out of the workforce, forces the employer to be stingy with good employees and overpay mediocre employees for their relative value added benefit.

For every $1 dollar minimum wage is raised, inflation goes up only $0.25. Raising minimum wage is not detrimental to an economy.

I know it's a government site and therefore 75% of BO will likely not take it seriously (but where do you think everyone else gets there info?) https://www.dol.gov/featured/minimum-wage/mythbuster
