That would place a 10 at around $2.5-3K value and decent raw for about half.
Wasn't Series 1 exclusive to Toys R Us, and Series 2 exclusive to Meijer?

It could have been tbh, but there were just so few of these that it might as well have been TRU during the store downsizings. It's super niche and I'd rather have a #d blue/pink but they are very htf.

According to baseballcardpedia, Meijer took over distribution of Series 2 after Toys R Us closed all their locations.

I don't have the purple #700, but here's my Opening Day purple.

I'll let you know if I see a copy in 8/9. If it was released in retail, the PR is definitely at least 200+. My only concern with unnumbered/exclusive PR, but presumed to be rare cards, is that someone could find a pallet of TRU/Meijer S2 cards in a storage unit one day and pull out 15-20 copies. Or there was a collector that hoarded 50 copies upon release and suddenly decided to sell. That would be great as a collector, but not so fun if you paid $1K+.

anything is possible when it comes to unnumbered cards (heck, numbered ones too can have duplicates haha) but i am not too worried about it when if comes to 2018, or any year really. only exception would be 2019 Update which came in those damn cubes haha

Love the OD purple. One of my favorites. What you said (baseballcardpedia) is jogging my memory a bit. I think Topps printed S2 for TRU but they went under, so they sold what they could to Meijer. If that's the case, the PR should be really low since there were only a handful of TRU stores left. It's also quite possible (as noted in the mentioned scenario) that some of these were liquidated and are sitting somewhere.

Yeah, there's less and less concern as the years go by. If someone has a pallet of this lying around, they don't know what they have . Pretty sure the market can absorb another 20-30 copies without much impact to price as long as it's not auctioned at once.

That PSA 10 purple sold for $2500 in 2022 and that was the last one that has surfaced for sale on any platform that ive seen so placing a 10 now at that same price is ludicrous. The blues and pinks have seen numerous copies available over the last several years as well and are nowhere near as hard to find as the purple.

Ive seen less than 10 copies of the purple hit the market since its release in 2018.

I literally led with "not enough sample size." You are welcome to go off your own estimates.

Also, do you really think they only printed 10 copies of the purple set? There could be 50 copies or 500 copies, we don't really know. That's the whole point of this conversation. Just because you've seen more blues does not mean it is not as rare as purple.

Mine got the fine 9 treatment. Thinking of cracking and trying again. Card looks good.

I did not say that i think they only printed 10 copies. I said there have been less than 10 copies hit the market in the 6 years since its release which speaks volumes to its possible print run. There is no one sitting on 50 copies of that card, i guarantee it. The 2018 purples are much rarer for any players card, not just ohtani, than all of the purples in the years after. If you search for 2018 purple meijers on ebay you get 5 sold copies and 67 current listings. For 2019 current listings are over 700. For 2021 over 2000 listings. The 2018 purple meijers are extremely short printed compared to any other year.

You just added this part so ill respond to it as well. I did not say the blues were not rare. You said they were very hard to find while simultaneously saying the purples could be hiding everywhere. I stated that ive seen numerous blues and pinks over the last several years and no purples to highlight the fact that the purples are indeed much harder to find than the blues/pinks, rarity aside.

I don't speak in absolutes for a reason. At the end of the day, you just don't know.

The one thing I can tell you for a fact is that nobody was opening product for purple parallels in 2018. There was much, much more hobby and regular retail being opened, which explains the availability of the pink/blues. If you want to pay $10K for the next #700 purple in PSA 10, go for it.

If you were opening meijer packs, you were absolutely looking for purple parallels. That was the only way to get them. One pack with 1 loose purple card underneath the pack. How did you come to the conclusion that nobody was opening meijer packs back then enough to state that as fact? .

I sold a 2018 Topps Update Hobby Case today for $15k on MySlabs. My transaction page shows where the buyer actually paid over $16k after tax. Just figured I’d let this thread know since he is a big name in that product.

I feel like this season is a great buying opportunity, and the real increase in his cards will be next season when he’s pitching and hitting again. No matter what he’s pretty unbelievable!

You're clearly trying really hard to be right and for me to be wrong. You know very well what I meant. Really hope your day gets better, man.

What? This is clearly just your way of ignoring and not acknowledging the facts ive laid out and are now trying to bait me into taking the conversation in another sinister direction to distract from those facts because you cant deny them. Such a weird response from such a “respected” member.

Looks like maybe they were sent to both stores but TRU stores closed 2 weeks after release date https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?t=1220897
