1. Some parts of retail are dead (chronicles bskb comes to mind) Donruss basketball? sold out in 2 days at my walmart. I grabbed some megas to stash away.
2. Retail has become more diluted (anecdotally noticed by me busting series 1 topps 2022 baseball) I haven't looked at production numbers, but no doubt, they are up.
3. Product which was gone immediately last year is sitting on retail shelves.


BUT

1. Retail still has a place AND value (2022 topps chrome baseball when it's released will dry up immediately)
2. Anything prizm still disappears fast
3. It still scratches the "itch" for me anyway----keeps me from busting my valuable hobby boxes

Yeah but it took months and months to sell.
I have 2015-2018 hobby boxes and I won't even get a sniff 20% below ebay.

If I wanted to sell it locally I would have to list stuff for almost free for anyone to be interested in it.

There's people on my local FB that have new retail 50% lower than msrp and people still don't want it.

That might be true k13, but you also leave out the tiny little fact you live in Canada. With the exceptions I listed in my previous post, retail still does well here, so does hobby.

There’s nothing wrong with buying retail ~ there’s a lot wrong with buying any and all Retail simply because it’s available - that’s a great way to go broke!

If I walk in to a Target that was just stocked —- I might buy 0, 1 or maybe 2 Mega boxes, depending on what the product is, and if it fits my ‘buying model’. This is done with the calculated anticipation of appreciation and future resale ( 1-2 years-ish ), with the use of the proceeds dedicated towards 1 sweet Hobby Box purchase.

Buy / sell after appreciation, 4-5 retail mega boxes, re-invest into 1 long term hold PC hobby box ~~ wash, rinse, repeat.
I’d say about 10% of my hobby wax purchases are funded this way/ another 70% cash without having to sell anything, and the other 20% PAINFULLY selling something I REALLY wanted to keep, but something unexpected came along that I just HAD to have!

like most Collectors, I have a niche:
PC of Sealed / Mint single Wax Boxes, 5 Sport, active player RC and/or Prospect driven, prefer Baseball, mostly Hobby, $500 - $5,000 per box, with a Collection average of about $1,450 per (present value / $950-ish average initial cash purchase price)

During boom I had to fight off people at walmart too.
I would sell wax everyday.

Look at ebay.
Sales of retail are terrible.
Not a local thing.

2011 Tristar Obak. This is a really cool set, despite being unlicensed. 2011 Trout cards, including autos, doesn’t hurt. What I really like is that the boxes are individually serial numbered out of 1800.

The blasters are from 2009 TriStar, also with a chance at Trout autos.
