Hey everyone - wanted an opinion - as of today, there are 114 different HOFers with on-card autos, which I'm close to finishing up with a few tough ones. I imagine it will go to 115 once someone puts Schuerholz in a set. One thing I realized is that Leo Durocher was in the '16 Archives Signature set, which are technically on-card autos. I imagine he was 1/1 only though - did anyone see any of his cards? And would you consider him added to the pool of on-card autos? Or because it was a weird anomaly like that set, you'd keep him off? Thanks for any opinions!

I think I'm now at 245...and aside from new inductees, it might have been a year or so since I got a new player...........and still holding out for a decent Schuerholz....

Pics to follow of course when I get it..
That is awesome! Congrats! Though, I must admit when I read you were venting I was anticipating a poor end to the story. Can't wait to see it!

I assume you mean pack pulled on card. There are a lot more than 114 cards of HOFers with autos on them. The 2016 Durocher definitely wouldn't be "on card" as it would be a cut. But nuthin' wrong with cuts.

What I meant is that they held the card in their hand to sign it, which I first brought up in this thread:

http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/b...ard-autos.html

It's the 108 from this thread plus Piazza, Griffey, Bagwell, Raines, Pudge, and Selig = 114. The 2016 Archives Signature wound up pulling some cards from some deceased players that they signed (so on-card and in person) during the living years.

For example, here's Earl Weaver (2016 card - died 2013) -

2016 Topps Archives Signature EARL WEAVER Auto 1/1 ORIOLES 1987 ONLY ONE IN '16 | eBay

so they 'found' cards these guys had signed - I was saying would you consider Durocher in this list, in which case if there's only ONE 1/1, it would be quite difficult to meet that criteria. Beckett lists it as 'on card' under that premise, but it's difficult for me to consider it as such.

Yeah. There are a lot of potential "buyback" autos like that. That's what makes it tough. For example, here's a Richie Ashburn on card auto I own. There are 61 different Richie Ashburn autos you can pull in various packs over the years and they are all cut autos. But if I sold this one to Topps and they packed it out it would be an on card auto. I imagine there's an on card auto of a bunch of HOFers that have never been packed out.

Also, I checked that thread and remember it. Sorry I never saw your question about a good on card Brett auto. My favorite in my collection is a Diamond Kings Recollection Collection buyback of his 1982 DK card but it's 1/1. If I didn't have that one, the definitive on card, pack pulled auto of Brett that is attainable (albeit SPed) would be his Fleer Greats of the Game auto.

Thank you Skip. I'm not going to consider it true then as it's not a manufactured mass-produced auto. So, my number stands at 114 for on-card. I'm at 110 - hope to show it in the thread before too long.

I picked up the Finest Moments Brett auto a while back - after finding one with a nice bold auto (I know a bunch are streaky and faded)...

Between my sabbatical and the recent wave of impossibles and near impossibles, things have slowed way down here. Today's HOF'er should make it easier for a lot more people to play.

Interesting....Durocher=Dead long time. But if it is at 114, I wonder who I'm missing......... I have been trying to get modern on cards along with the vintage stuff for the older guys.....all on card for newer guys.....

Exactly this. I came across three supposedly real examples and not one looked remotely like another.

To me that looks more like someone identifying the person in the photograph, not an actual signature. I'd need to see a signed document for comparison.

Some of these old Negro League players are almost mythological. Barely any photos of them exist, nevermind autographs. Maybe some team signed sheets or hotel registries are out there.

Provenance. Often the only way to get a signature certified as genuine when there are no comparables is the provenance. Some auction houses are more reputable than others and won't auction an item off without certainty in the provenance.

This particular example was auctioned off by Christie's last year which is probably the most reputable auction house in the world. They wouldn't waste time selling a questionable $5k item.
