Hes right. Theres some very shady members on here. Not all, a small percentage. They will pump, deceive and defraud buyers for a few (hundred) bucks. Those are the ones hes warning yall about.

That is what I thought when I initially passed on the Ermsy Trout as a Trout PC guy- for someone who is constantly seeking /10, /25, /50, /100 variations of his cards, I though the almost 3k run to be high and would be readily available. Plus I really didn’t like the card- still don’t, to be honest. Ive passes on flagship golds a lot because of the high print runs and seemingly frequent availability (and yes have my fair share of 206 with rare backs where the Psa # is in the single digits.). But I ended up getting the Trout based on everything before it got too high $200, and have gotten the rest from Topps. I will continue to do so and only seek to get cards I like. Don’t have a ton, but did pick up a cartoon Brett two days ago about $100 too rich now- but I liked it and will keep it. Thankfully that was my biggest project purchase, and one of the few non-Trouts I have. But I do hope it breaks the patterns from other sets. I don’t know if all the various collections will materialize. 300 plus cards to go is a long road.

Yes, some people win. The people who get in early, sell direct, and then STOP all together.

What will happen is that as we go over the next 304 cards the PR will start to get smaller and smaller. This isn’t a good thing. The gains on the initial cards will continue to dwindle. If you bought the first few at MSRP (the vast majority of you guys didn’t) will you make money in those cards? YES! If you reinvested those gains into subsequent 10 packs you’re losing money, and for each buy you make going forward your ROI will dwindle. By the time this is done, you’ll have lost on so many sets (holding cards you can’t sell because everybody else is doing it) coupled with the 3% you pay for every jerk that wants to return you’ll be in the red.

Now you’ve got high set number cards with print runs similar to the early cards in the set, only these small print run cards on the back end aren’t being flipped. The flippers have left and now collectors are snagging at MSRP. The guys who have been “investing” start to notice that low print run cards at the end have next to no secondary value even though the print runs at the beginning have had big secondary value. This is the second sell-off of those early cards and when the set becomes worth less than MSRP.

I promise this is what will happen. I don’t know when, but this is the cycle of this.

If you’ve made money and are in the black and stop now, you win. If you keep buying thinking you’ll keep capturing gains, eventually your purchases will outweigh your sales. This happens to everybody.

If you haven’t captured gains yet to free roll the set, I don’t know what to tell you. If you don’t have a StockX account where you can sell risk free at current market value, I don’t know what to tell you.

It’s not my money. It’s not about being “right” or “wrong” like you pumpers keep making this out. I love this forum and I love every member on it and don’t want to see guys losing $400 on a card in a day because they got sucked in my others who have never undertaken anything like this (AlexHunter) and fall into the FOMO.

The gifs are fun. The rocket ships make me laugh. What’s not fun is people losing money. The vast majority in this thread have lost money as opposed to make it, and will continue to lose money listening to your advice.

Believe who you want. Guys who joined the forums in the last month, or those of us who have seen this dog and pony show happen before.

I don't think this could have been said any better. As one of those collectors who was able to get in early, and sell some of my cards for MODEST profits, I feel fortunate.

The difference for me is that going forward, I am only going to buy cards that appeal to me. This set is meant to be collected.

Also, totally open to criticism here. I feel strongly about these as others feel strongly opposed. That's what a forum is for. A place for all to share their thoughts. We don't have to be a cult or agree on the same things.

Instead of the 1-85 talk being the key cards that will retain high value, it may wind up being just sub-10k that retain high value, and sub-5 retaining super high value.

I could be wrong, but we're talking about collectors. Collectors collect. Whenever there's the super sell off that you're predicting, they're going to be sold to collectors. After that, there won't be many. Prices go back up.

In the end, I value your experience, and despite my many memes and gifs, I do take all of this seriously. I too don't want people losing money. I overextended on one card, and I hope when I collect the artist run I'm able to recoup what currently appears to be a loss. But if I can't, thankfully, I can absorb that loss without any issues. I feel bad for anyone who over-extended, purchasing 10-packs, and are now nervous. Half the reason I "pump" is in the hopes that these people won't get the shaft, you know what I mean?

I post the memes and gifs to make those who are nervous laugh. Give them something to feel optimistic about. It may not work out, but if you got the right mindset "if" this doesn't work out, you'll be okay.

Except you need to have thousands of collectors that want these to have the supply dry up. I just don’t see it. I think we have seen the peak. Prices will eventually stabilize and then we will go forward. You had so much hype driving prices up that it is natural when the hype dissipates, prices drop. Collectors will want to collect these, but at what level? 2900 Trout collectors willing to pay 1500 for a Project 2020 card? I doubt it.

You ship and be thankful. I've had a surge in 0 feedback buyers (buying relatively high-priced cards) in recent weeks. None have cancelled. All have paid. A lot of people are joining or returning to the hobby. This is good news for anyone who got in last year or earlier. If you're concerned, require signature confirmation and maybe insurance.

My biggest problems have actually been with long-time members who sell a lot of flippable items (but not sportscards) on their site.

I don't think the number interested in collecting this (aka NON flippers that want to be out ASAP) AND are willing to pay over the MSRP exceeds the print run.

"Can't ever get again" is just fluff language. Every single release in the past that is no longer available from the distributor carries this tag. I can guarantee you that you will be able to purchase any one of these cards at a fair price point on Ebay in the future.
