Mini slump officially busted. I guess I don't have to post new pick ups to get him out of his slump.

5.1 bWAR and 5.0 fWAR before the break is good, right? Even if he's just a DH.

I was just mocking some of the fan denial that a DH should not be allowed to win MVP. It's healthy for perceived common sense to be shaken up.

I was at the game yesterday and got to witness some history:

Ohtani became only the third player with a home run, triple, walk, hit by pitch, and stolen base in a game. (He actually got a 2nd walk to go with all that, for a perfect night.)

The 2nd player to ever do it was the Brewers' Christian Yelich on June 1, 2019, vs. Pittsburgh, and he hit a late game-tying home run in this same game that saw Ohtani match his rare feat. Pretty long odds on that, I'd say!

The first and only other player with that statline was Bert Daniels of the New York Highlanders against the Chicago White Sox on July 8, 1910.

This is from his 1st or 2nd at-bat, either the walk or hit by pitch.
In this sequence (taken with my girlfriend's nicer phone), he fouled one directly into the announcer's booth and someone yelled, "He killed Fernando!"

I'll post some pictures (albeit from my own, crappy phone) from later in the game of his triple and Homer in the Dodger thread later today.

I think the rest of the baseball world is in denial. I keep on hearing people saying Bryce Harper will win the MVP unless Ohtani wins the triple crown because he is a DH. My guess is Harper going through the same injury would say that Ohtani is the MVP of the NL. WAR penalizes the DH position. And Ohtani still has the most WAR in the NL. If the Dodgers win their division and Ohtani keeps this pace I am confident the voters will vote him MVP.

The low and middle end Ohtani RC market is heating up. Not seeing the same types of deals from a month ago. In my opinion the market does not have a 3rd MVP baked onto his prices. I expect his market to keep rising...though I would like to buy more before this happens.

The AL was pretty salty and took a few years to stop crying from Sho dominance. Nobody bothers to bring up the Miguel Andujar ROY tears anymore. Remember, the first stage in grieving is denial!

Awesome! Glad you got to go to a great game (and not his bday game). Those CC jerseys sure are ugly though

It's bizarre, those City Connects.
There's so little to them design-wise, and worse, they are a dingy yellow color akin to the sheets at a fleabag motel, which is only underscored by all the other people at the game contrasting them in their brilliant white Dodger jerseys. I saw a few of them on fans, but most were just wearing the regular stuff.

The bobblehead giveaway featured Heyward in a CC, and though he couldn't play, he was on the field pre-game wearing it and playing with his kids.

I've got a couple pictures of that in the Dodger thread, too, plus I'll add the Ohtani hits, the Vargas homer, and the final out.

So basically after this year Ohtani would need to average just above 30 HR a year for the next 9 years to make it to 500. I think he can do that!
