I of course got stuck sitting with my father most of the time, and him trying to make conversation about how the past is the past and moving on - all while him telling me family stories that contradict it.

Could have been worse though, whatever. My sister and new BIL had a ton of fun and were super happy and I'm happy for them.

Now I have a case of the Mondays.

I am glad you were able to go and that your sister is happy. Dealing with estranged parents who are obtuse is very difficult.

I think the bigger problem is how we tend to talk about groups ("women" "men" etc.) as if they were homogenous monoliths capable of acting in a coherent and consistent manner.

In general we're all just frightened and easily-distracted monkeys.

I understand that. The issue with that though is that we are unable to move past that and until we do, things need to be discussed in a manner that gets noticed and recognized.

It has less to do with looking like men and more with trying to bring the eye level a little closer to the eyes.

One time, I spent hours helping a man getting documents notarized, setting up a bank account and getting his pension. He spent months trying to figure it out on his own. We got it accomplished in an afternoon. While we were talking he said "sometimes you just need a man's touch".

After the night club closed we would host after parties for all kinds of groups. When the gay dudes rolled in (literally on roller skates and on ecstasy), them dudes were ruthless as hell. To be fair so were the bachelorette parties. Bunch of horny mofos
