Am I wrong in assuming Topps totally destroys the value by putting a stupid shiny stamp on that?

Yes and no I guess? Some original T206 are still fairly cheap even for them being so old. The last few graded Stones though have sold for a decent price. The stamp itself is cool, so it does make it unique, but not sure how many people will be chasing buybacks from this set.

Nope, total novelty card. Framed ones do well in the past as they appeal to both modern and vintage collectors. I was working on t205 set for a year or so (have since given up), and I never thought twice about opening them up from their frames to add to my set. That being said, this 100% would not fit in my set with the logo KILLING it for me.

Agreed. The framed ones don't alter the card, they merely encapsulate it, so I'm fine with those.

Regardless, Stone is a common, and I doubt that card raw breaks $35 at auction. Still seems dumb that Topps is stamping them up.

The collectors going for the high end Cobbs in the tobacco world would never touch this crap. I have to imagine Topps is only crapping out the commons.

It's an original T206 card. Topps just stamped it.

It was an added bonus they announced for wave 5. They've done T206 buybacks in other products before, Museum Collection this year had framed ones. They're originals that they bought and in this case stamped. More than likely they bought cheaper ones, as I don't think they would have bought any big name T206 and stamped them.

My guess is that they stamped them because some scammers were removing the minis from the frames in previous years and putting in T206s instead to make them look like buybacks. Or replacing commons buyback T206s with mid-tier HOFs to make them even more valuable.

totally missed that announcement! thanks for the heads up. so there will be some original T206 1/1s floating around in addition to the base checklist. makes perfect sense... just so confused without seeing that announcement

I just mean like with the theory that Wagner didn't want to be associated with cigarettes in general... and those are indeed tobacco cards. I'm just surprised no one has complained about this, like people complain about hot coffee at McDonald's

No biggie. I personally don't have a problem with them. Just surprised is all.
