Its interesting to me how Mercury started out giving great ROI and then dropped down to giving exactly the same sub returns as any other sealed product. And in the long term will rise again as supply dwindles, even with the foreknowledge of likely scanning. Just as people buy card-exchange sealed 86F boxes that they know have been cobbled together to contain no Jordans.

That's how most releases work. Prices driven up with hype upon release then the hype dies and prices cool off. Whether the boxes climb long term is likely going to depend on Wemby's performance at that point.

NBA shouldn't have moved up their season. Competing with NFL and MLB playoffs is just foolish. I can't even focus on basketball till the world series is over.

NFT's aren't doing anything for the most part, so I doubt this trickles anywhere else. Crypto was trying to be regulated and now people think it will be an unregulated Disneyland. I think cards as investments will continue to decline over time as the majority of people continue to lose money on them and come to their senses.

Cards weren't commoditized until covid. We have a long way down and a lot of people have a lot more money to lose until it goes back to being a hobby.

It won't be back until you stop seeing those hypebeast goofballs walking around shows with their dumb slab cases and man purses

1099-K forms, if actually issued next year, will be the start of flippers leaving the hobby. Card shows may actually gain steam next year as flippers will use them to avoid the taxes, but online platforms will suffer when reality of tax forms are sent through the mail.

My plan is to sell anything that I don't collect or really like before Fanatics floods the market with singles.

The $20 to $200 range is a nice space to be in.

I would be crapping myself if I was paying $1000 for these Autos that are getting around. Long drop coming

Are you talking about eBay sending them out next year or are there other platforms that will be doing it?

Base anything seems like a waste of time

Not even due to cost, the cards themselves are just super boring and you could likely get something way more fun (like an optic holo psa 9 vs a prizm base psa 10) for not that much more money

All platforms have to if it is over $5000 in goods/sales.

Base is for collecting.

This is a hobby, after all, and sometimes you just want a basic rookie card of a guy.

Don't know about the States, but in Australia we can have $75k turnover before we have to consider our hobby a business.

I am starting to really retreat in only buying HOF Rcs. Concentrating on older stuff on my wish list. Any modern HOFers going forward will have 100s to choose from at any time. I don't buy much wax anymore and since prizm doesn't come out until season is almost over, it is a bit easier to just target a couple to buy. Everybody else can wait to see if they pan out and the cards will be half off.

Kinda takes some of the fun out of it if you only buy cards for people that played 20+ years ago instead of right now

For me anyway

Takes out the fun somewhat, but also takes out the risk. For someone like me that collected in the 90's, I learned the lesson that current cards lose value. The same vintage cards that had value when I was a kid, still have value and will continue to have value. There will always be enough people that will collect the history of the game.

Very possibly could change with Republican control of Congress and the presidency.

Why would a rule that's in place for 2024 change now?
