That's just an ignorant statement.

The vast majority of Panini basketball products have been failures.

Immaculate/NT/Flawless is just fine...The rest is junk that everyone skips anyway...I guess you have prizm or whatever.

No one forces you to buy junk. Speak with your wallet.

Sure I'd rather have spa/ultimate/exquisite but that's life.

Exclusives in every sport now...
Kind of gross.

Hobby should be dying very soon again since I came back after a 20 year lay off.

Here's my take on it.

1. I love Upper Deck and college uni stuff, so I still have that.
2. Panini blows.
3. If Panini announces this at the National I hope there is a major uproar. They will be expecting cheers...I hope they get shouted off stage.
4. I have already been moving out of cards and into certed memorabilia.
5. I will collect more non-sports (TV, Movies and Pop Culture).
6. Industry is bad anyway, and Panini will be its executioner.
7. Panini will cater almost exclusively to large case breakers.
8. I'm done with sticker autos in anything, just won't buy them, even for my PC. No matter what company.

I think this has caused enough uproar already that one or both of these companies needs to address this issue like yesterday! Because this is ridiculous. Nobody knows what's going on, but they do.

Wouldn't this mean less autos in the market? Less time spent by players signing, less hounding for autos they didn't sign yet, less photo ops and events, and less event used gear.

This may actually mean more on-cards and more authentic gu stuff in cards since only one company will have them.

Would suck to see Finest and five star go. Not a huge chrome fan.

So I agreed with the sentiment that the hobby had to get smaller to grow. With 9 companies making cards, and each company putting out at least 10 releases a year. Thats almost 100 "true" rookie cards of say Cade McNown. Thats crazy.

But having one company and no choice is just stupid. I'm not a Topps fan but I like that they kept Panini honest. At least somewhat...

That is the reason I solely open product from around 1994-2002 era pretty much. After that game used era came along making the insert a lost art, and companies merged and the competition was lessened.

If they made topps in basketball would the superfarctor be king? How much would a Lebron James superfractor auto rookie go for these days?

Any update on the possible exclusive. The post by ITG Ceo Brian Price in Feb. makes me believe that Upper Deck may be able to attain and NFL license, not Panini.

With what money? UD can't compete with Panini in terms of capital.

Basketball is exclusive and there are still sticker autos (even in Spectra at $270/box).

There are 2 components to a license, the upfront payment and a royalty for each sale. UD might not have the upfront $$$, but maybe if they offer up a high enough royalty percentage..... Just a possibility
