I am a vintage collector, but I open modern since I can sell it at shows to make money to buy more cards for my collection. I have a pretty decent pulse on which guys sell well from thousands of interactions at shows and on eBay. Usually with hobby favorites, do you need to sell them early when they first come out before the price drop, and last year’s example of Jackson holiday and Wyatt Langford are perfect examples. Both of their rookie always were selling for 900 to 1200 in March of last year, and today you’re probably lucky to get $400 and 600 for either one of them. Chourio is saddled with being in a brutal market with little media coverage just like Seattle, Colorado, Tampa….

To be relevant in the Hobby you not only have to be a superstar with good power numbers, but you also have to be in a media market that gets a lot of exposure. Like LA, New York, Chicago….

For sure. Langford without a doubt seems to have nose dived.

Jesus Made is by far the top prospect, but foreign players in small markets(Milwaukee) don’t fare well - see Chourio. Only other ones are Weatherholt with good hit tools but only a 12-15 HR guy, Condon who is injured and not projecting well so few, Morlando, Honeycutt, and McGonigle. Time will tell.
You seem to make a lot of generalizations that have some degree of accuracy to them, but that are not always necessarily true.

If foreign players in small markets don't "fare well", why did Wander Franco become the most hyped hobby name for 2+ years prior to his callup and why did his prices reach the levels they did despite him playing in perhaps the WORST market in all of baseball? How about Elly De La Cruz? Certainly Cincinnati isn't a big market.

I also think you have a much different (and perhaps incorrect) definition of "faring well" than most other buyers and sellers in the card market. Chourio prices fared quite well prior to his callup, and even now a 1st auto PSA 10 of his selling for around $750 is quite strong. You can feel free to call that "not faring well", but that makes me consider you out of touch with the card market.

Or perhaps you just have absurdly high expectations compared to everyone else, since only 2 or 3 players in the entire hobby "sell well". Good for you in that case.

Also, perhaps you are fixated on only determining who sells well after they are established stars in MLB. That's much different than buying and selling prospects at different times prior to/at their callup, which is what someone like me does a lot of.

Agreed. I've been buying Chourio for the last year, and unless we are talking pre-August last year, he is selling extremely well.

The difference is Jesus Made is a legit talent with the chance to play in the majors, Jadyn is a circus show because of dad and grandpa. He will never see anything above the A ball level.

I agree it is but in todays prospecting world I wouldn’t be shocked to see it sell.

I live with an hour or so of Cincinnati and Reds stuff always sells really well. As far as non-Reds stuff right now it is Caglianone, Skenes, Judge, Ohtani, and Witt Jr as the big sellers. Secondary sellers I call the Jackson’s -Merrill, Holliday, Chourio plus any rookie prospects.

Shot myself in the foot by not going in a 5 case pyp of guy I wanted, Javier Mogollon, with Real breaks. Felt $149 was above where I thought price would be. Superfractor auto was hit so all the other breaks I got into kind of lost their appeal.

Pulled a snack pack out of top of a hobby box. Anyone heard how often those are seeded in these?
