This thread is Blowout in a nutshell...
Should gather a few more pages as people drink over the weekend and/or mods close for violation of forum rules.

We get it.

Youre rich, were broke.

not at all...being rich has nothing to do with what the value of a card is. Just debating...all good

Reminds me a of a few years back. Then people (buyers group?) decided "hey maybe it's time to sell" and prices dropped like a rock

I randomly selected bvg 7 and went back 10+ years. steady increases
up until the recent SURGE.

this SURGE right now is across all grade levels . softening a bit ? certainly possible.

"dropping like a rock" ??? sorry, don't see it happening.

That being said, demand determines value and I've heard often (prior to the documentary) that many of these younger collectors think that Jordan is/was overrated. I'm not sure how they feel now after watching the documentary, but if the demand/popularity of MJ fades with the coming generations, so will the demand. That will take many years though..

I cannot believe you actually wrote this.

has babe ruth's popularity faded ? mickey mantle's ? wayne gretzky's ?

we can agree to disagee on the "current" value of the 86 #57, but.......

Jordan is the GOAT.

absent some unforeseen, horrible "scandal", his "place" is etched in the history books.

I agree that was comical. bird and johnson got the nba back on its feet and jordan propelled the NBA to the world . The Dream team also helped in 92. Sport GOATs are never forgotten. Even though there are no replays of babe Ruth from the early 1900's along with the other greats Cobb, Johnson, jackson, etc., we are four generations removed and still know these gents. With current situation of youtube and highlights Jordan will never be forgotten and always a card that a collect will want...Mickey mantel forgotten? one of the highest sort out rookie cards

My educated guess is sales between friends came to an end and prices fell... I'm not sure if it was a deal buying off those high sales logged between friends

Yes. They fade.
Mickey Mantle is not anything. I can walk down the street and ask a 100 people and be lucky if 1 person has heard of him.

Just cause his cards sell don't mean he's that popular.

Wilt is mostly forgotten and he set more records than Jordan.

Jordan dident really do much except win a few rings and some scoring titles. Horry has more rings anyway.

Not like he crushed records like Gretzky...

Just like Lebron who's the next GOAT...has only lead the lead in one major statistical category in his whole career.

A major shift in demographics can change a lot.

"bstrong" was referencing card value/popularity AND I was referencing card value/popularity. don't believe me ?? try buying a '51 bowman mantle or
'52 topps mantle TODAY. bring a brinks truck with you.

your 2nd point is just foolish. Jordan transcended the game.

nationally, internationally, he's a brand, an icon.

the doc simply brought out what everybody who grew up/ or lived in Chicago already knew.

last, the nba is literally PRINTING MONEY. $25-$30 million a year for AVERAGE players like otto porter jr. ?? and their are dozens and dozens of today's players reaping the benefits.

rant over. LOL

I bought my most expensive MJ ever today. And it’s a pre-Fleer NBA licensed card. Hope people start pumping it up

SGC 9 went over $10K (possible shenanigans? I don't know). New record?

That card looks far better than the PSA 10 that Probstein just sold for 70K. Far better.

sorry. NOT a fan of the "rough-cut" left edge.

not only is it un-appealing to me, I don't get how it's not factored
in to the grade. jmho

I see what you're saying, but a large percentage of those cards have those kinds of cuts. PSA has never downgraded for rough cuts. However, maybe SGC DID factor that in, or else it would have been a 10. Who knows?

Much rather look at a rough cut than an off-centered card. That SGC 9 is incredibly centered.

Sometimes you just have to quote and marvel at a statement someone makes

I’ve heard a lot of hate against Jordan lately. A lot of stupid things on Instagram that I don’t think they even believe. This is up there.

Yeah he didn’t do much. Good one
