"highest end ever offered"

Well...I swim in the shallow end of the pool in card collecting. I have been thinking about the best way to get this "exclusive" set into the collection of a well-off collector that didn't get into the club while making a small "middleman" fee.

It all depends on how they do it...will it be a big set or boxes/packs? We will have to wait for more info before we can decide what the best approach to this will be. If it is a whole set, it may be difficult to find someone to drop $10k and then how would they pay for it ( I haven't been lucky enough to pull a 1/1 Ohtani auto to know lol). If it is pack/boxes, then it will be more accessible to flip.

Thoughts?

Maybe Breakers would want the product?
You could just sell in advance to someone like Platinum who could easily sell spots? Only the members can purchase the product.
For $200 it’s worth the risk of joining. I doubt the membership number will be high. Too many people were on the fence and then Topps shut it down.

If it's a set, you could pre sell by splitting it up by team, player, odd or even card numbers, lots of cards like 1-20 etc.

I can't see how it's a set... With all the memberships they sold, that would be a lot, especially if it's the highest end ever offered. Sapphire was what 250 sets? So it would have to be lower than that I would think

As far as the set, and maybe I'm not clearly understanding this thread, it says that 5 products will be shipped throughout the year. One of those products listed is a set with the Montgomery Stamp. To me that means that they will send you a complete base set with the Montgomery Stamp on the cards. Like ASG sets and whatnot. No need to try to piece something together. Thats probably the reason its listed last too.

I think what we are all talking about is the option to purchase the "highest end set" ever offered by Topps

6 products are included free with the membership. They are also releasing some kind of super high end set that will only be available to members to purchase. That's what everybody is discussing.

They found 582 cases of 1952 high number baseball, and everyone gets one case for joining

Pay me $200 so I can sell you even more expensive cards?? Is that what this is?

That's definitely one way to look at it... I'm curious how much more high end they can go than transcendent. Take away the special guest experience from transcendent and it really is just another product.

Not really. You're leaving out with that $200 cost you get 2 autos, a complete set and a few smaller sets. And as you mentioned, the opportunity to buy more expensive cards.

Kinda like paying $2000 a plate to eat dinner at a political function. Sure you get dinner and it's a tax write off. The chance to network with people could be worth far more in the long run than the ticket price.

This is a can't miss. Worse case, I think you'll break even, but with some patience, (or quite possibly striking while the iron is hot), you could do a lot better. I'm sure some luck will be involved, too, since the autographs should vary from one set to the next.

Kudos to Topps for capping this thing quickly, but well after even the average-est of collectors (albeit with $200 to spend) had a chance to get in on the ground floor. Obviously, Topps could've posted "Offer Expires Sunday Night" and sold plenty more over this weekend.

Looking forward to seeing the goods.

I never understand comments like this. It's really none of anyone's business what other's choose to spend their own money on. I bought one..I don't see how it can be a loser if Topps wants it continue past one year. On the other hand, if it is a loser, well that's my problem and no one else's.

Its actually nothing like that. I'm paying 200 dollars for a limited factory full set, 2 autos, and a few other sets. All shipped to my door free up here in Canada.

To me the option to buy the high end set didn't even factor into my buying decision

Same. I expect to be happy with the cards I get for $200 even if I never buy a single thing offered to members.

I hope that everyone that bought in is happy and I suspect you probably will be. But you just bought a $200 grab bag from topps. I can read a thread a day for the rest of my life about how topps screwed over collectors on redemptions or whatever. There’s reports that topps is selling their company.

The comments about hooking up this program to sell more in year two are particularly hilarious. Topps wants whatever money you’ll give them....now. Their mock-up for this product was a trout auto with RC logo that says he plays for the diamondbacks. Yup this exclusive club is a topps priority.

As several people have pointed out what is the difference between paying to be a part of this and paying for a $200 box of one of Topps' releases.

In both cases there is no guarantee that you will achieve a financial return on your investment.

If the gambling aspect of this hobby is not understood, and accepted, then find something else to spend your hard earned on, or you will spend a lot of time feeling angry and disappointed.

I do not know if my 582 Montgomery purchase will be a financially wise decision, but I hope it will be.

Either way I will have some new cards for my collection.

Unsurprisingly, this has been the case for every single box I have ever bought.

There have been many instances in the past of mock up cards not being accurate and it’s not just with Topps. Initial mock ups that I saw did have RC on them but I have seen others that had it removed. I don’t understand why that mock up has come up in numerous discussions. At the end of the day that card would never be made like that so why does it matter? The $200 grab bag is no different than spending $200 on a hobby box. That’s also a $200 grab bag. I think the $200 is reasonable for what is advertised. Could we receive exclusives that seem disappointing? Sure. I really doubt though we’ll receive something that is really disappointing. I’d rather take a chance on this than a box of Triple Theeads.

This would be our dream scenario but financially doesn't make sense for Topps. Hoping for an amazing first year; a thank you to those whom got in early & grandfathering us into an exclusive club. Create buzz with memorable sets for members and limit membership next year. If they can do this everyone will be happy.
