Iron Maiden have sold 130 million albums worldwide. Rage Against The Machine have sold 16 million.

Year after year Iron Maiden has world wide tours in the biggest stadiums always selling out. Rage might have had a few sold out stadiums in their career. Iron Maidens career has span nearly 50 years with 17 albums while Rage lasted 8 years with 4 albums and really only two career defining hits. Iron Maiden was one of the leaders of the British Heavy Metal invasion and helped define the genre of Heavy Metal. They were one of the bands that helped revolutionize MTV as the defining source of music in the 1980's. They are still one of the most beloved heavy metal bands worldwide to all age groups. It really shows what a joke the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is when you can sit back and compare these two and see the obvious impact one band has had on a global level as compared to the other yet somehow the least impactful one manages to get in.

It's a total joke, and I'm right there with you on everything you said. The R&R Hall of Fame has consistently failed when it comes to acknowledging pioneers and innovators. On a broader note, Metal has always been mistreated by the industry and the system, which seems to cater more to pop, radio-friendly forms of rock music than those who blazed trails for contemporary musicians.

The fact that they couldn't wait to induct Green Day in 2015 and only last year got around to giving Judas Priest their due, speaks volumes. Same with Def Leppard, who many would argue were an integral part of the success MTV found in their early years, and were a massively successful rock/metal act (I use the term "Metal" loosely here). Iron Maiden should have been in years ago. Maiden is so crucially important to music, especially "rock" music. From their early punkish days with Paul Di'Anno to their more commercially successful with Bruce Dickenson, Maiden blazed the way for so many of the bands that followed in their footsteps. It's insulting that they aren't in yet, while bands like Green Day and Rage (who are both worthy in their own right) were in before Maiden. Quote:

That's right, some people are in twice, for instance, all of the Beatles as "The Beatles" and also as solo artists (John, Paul, George as "performers" and Ringo in the "musical excellence" category). Tina Turner is in twice as part of "Ike & Tina" and also as a solo artist, and so on...

Foreigner absolutely belongs, they have a terrific catalog.

Frampton was also overdue from actual rock music acts. DMB kept winning the fan vote, so they pretty much had to put them in, otherwise, why even have a fan vote? For me, the most glaring omissions remain Joy Division/New Order and The Smiths. I'd like to see Billy Idol in there, too (especially since Joan Jett got in. She was deserving, but Billy made more great songs than her and he wrote pretty much all of his own material) plus X (from Los Angeles) and They Might Be Giants. Beyond that, Kim Deal (from the Pixies and the Breeders) should get in on the "musical excellence" ticket at a minimum. Same goes for Danny Elfman (front man on Oingo Boingo and celebrated film score composer).

Just Foreigner and Ozzy for me,and I also think it's a crime that Iron Maiden is not in.

Erasure Iron Maiden Motley Crue Slayer Megadeth INXS ColdPlay Pixies Slayer should be in there long, long time ago. Like New Order, they created a genre. |

Nothing on this year's list is terribly infuriating to me, but then again the bar is pretty low and wobbly for RRHOF and has been for years.

As far as my own personal wishes for induction or acknowledgement, same couple acts from the last few years I think deserving: Los Lobos- masters of multiple genres and absolutely essential LA music. Longevity + respected by many other great musicians as well. Warren Haynes- Anchored the return of the Allman Brothers in the late 80s/early 90s, his own band (Gov't Mule) is absolute fire and has been for 30+ years. Incredible guitarist and human being who has acted as ambassador for younger new live music acts for years. Really high quality human being and musician. Staying in the live music/jam genre I think with DMB getting in Widespread Panic shouldn't be far behind. Drive by Truckers in a few years too.

The RR HOF is not a serious thing.

IRON MAIDEN not being in is a perfect example.

Although not in my wheelhouse I agree with these. I’ve had tons of friends borderline obsessed with these bands throughout my life. Their impact has been sizable to say the least.

They should be since they came from space, played live from Mt Fuji, all of their escapades in Antarctica and they single handedly killed Gor Gor who was the biggest threat to society until Man Bear pig came around.
