1949 Leaf doesn't become 1948 Leaf just because some of the cards were produced and copyrighted in 1948, do they? They were released in 1949 and is therefore a 1949 set. Why doesn't that apply here? (I'm assuming you believe 1949 Leaf to be a 1949 set for this discussion.)

Elly having a fierce battle with Volpe for most disappointing rookie season.

There isn't a Reds fan on the planet who agrees with you.

Even I don’t agree. It’s not even a battle. Volpe having a much better rookie season. What will be interesting to see is if Dominguez will finish with a higher war then Elly

Whew. I was worried I would say something positive about Elly and you wouldn't come in to immediately give your take so we all know you think he sucks. That was close.

You didn’t say anything positive, just that reds fans are good at ignoring his on the field performance or any actual stats

He’s looking at pitches down the middle. 3 more Ks.
Pure specialness

You mean the people who actually watch all the games and see the value he brings beyond the box score? Yeah, those people have no idea.

In fact, Reds fans would be the first ones frustrated with poor performance, so not sure why you would think they are more likely to ignore it.

I don’t doubt Elly has brought a fire to the team as well as defensive prowess, but eventually the offensive stats do have to matter.

They certainly matter. And he definitely strikes out too much. But those who watch every game have seen the change in approach (increased walks and lots of long ABs and full counts that don't show up in the box score). He's adjusting, even if incrementally. And he's middle of the pack offensively, regardless of what our resident philosopher thinks. So Reds fans aren't as worried as he is.

Middle of the pack offensively? Lol. He’s been well below replacement level offensively over the last 10 weeks (not counting today 0-4 with 3 Ks) so I have no idea how you can honestly argue that

92 OPS+ when you aren't cherrypicking a portion of a rookie's season. That's not good, but not terrible either.

From august 1st on he’s hitting .213 with a 40% K rate and you really are gonna argue he’s middle of the pack offensively. Like let’s be honest. Yes he’s super fast, yes he has huge upside but he has been one of worst offensive players in baseball for a large portion of the season

That’s 150/167 qualified hitters over that time frame.

And I’m. It cherry-picking stats I’m using whited average of most recent performer (since pitchers got a scouting report)

I feel like we've beaten this dead horse already, but taking an already small sample size of a career and trying to look at an even smaller portion of it is completely asinine.

3 more strikeouts today

And took out Noelvi Marte pregame with a ball in his face.
Hopefully it isn’t too serious

Ok let’s look at his entire career ffs. For hitters with 300+ at bats he’s like Maybee 180/260. Behind fellow greats like vogelbach, garret cooper, Connor Wong and some other de La Cruz

Like I said, 92 OPS+. Within 8% of league average. Middle of the pack. Which is exactly what I said. You just want to pick apart anything anyone dares to say that isn't lined up with your assessment that he's terrible. At this point your obsession is pathetic. I can guarantee you will always post after anyone mentions anything other than he's the worst hitter in baseball. It's like clockwork, but for lonely philosophers.

He probably stands outside the stadium handing kids with Elly jerseys flyers with his advanced stats over the past 39 days.

Kyle Schwarber has an atrocious .195 BA but still has 40 1 HR and 90 RBI. He leads the league as a qualified batter with 180 Ks in 628 PA.
Schwarber led the NL last year with 200 Ks.
Schwarber still manages to get an OBA of .344 since he does walk a lot (118 BB).

EDLC has 122 Ks in 360 PA. That’s a 162 game projection of 244. His HR/RBI projection is 22/72.
EDLC doesn’t walk (only 22).

Mark Reynolds has the all-time single season record for most Ks with 223 in 2009. In the history of the fans only 11 hitters have Kd 200+ times.

You guys can keep saying he’s got the tools, he’s got the “special” something something but even with his blistering speed his SB projection is 52 for 162 games. I admire your faith but facts are harder to ignore than aspirations.
