Just for comparison, I looked up the POP's for a 1952 Mantle. Combining PSA, SGC, and BVG, there are 2,155 of them graded. Assuming that there are probably a few hundred raw ones in existence (guesstimate), the Markakis could be as rare, or close to as rare as a 1952 Mantle.

I actually think that the Markakis will become an iconic card assuming the print runs don't get anywhere near that low ever again. I'm hanging on to the couple that I picked up. One is good enough to put in my next PSA shipment.

Comparing anything current to Mantle is incorrect in my opinion. There is only one Trout Superfractor (insert year here.) A lot fewer than Mantle 1952 Topps. Trout is obviously for real at this stage. Is he Mantle? In my opinion, he'll be better than Mantle (except he wasn't a Yankee). So shouldn't the Trout be worth a ton more than Mantle that printed in the thousands?

I doubt anyone is trying to build a 2009 Bowman Draft Superfractor set -- and by no means am I trying to compare Markakis to all time greats. Topps Living is made for set builders -- and if this set continues to gain in popularity, Markakis will be the white whale.

I wasn't thinking you were comparing Markakis to Mantle, don't worry. I'm just saying you can't compare rarity with newer cards that are artificially rare. There are fewer Topps Gold Trouts than 1952 Mantles. Yet the Mantle is worth significantly more than the Trout #d to 50. That was all I was trying to say.

I have my doubts that Markakis will be the shortest ever but you never know.

I remember when people who used to call Starting Lineup figures dollies started buying up all the 1993 Hockey because they had a source. Things slowed down and they stopped buying.

I wonder if the 4k and higher print runs of common players that sell for $8 on the secondary market will scare away those who are not "Now" people but are getting in for the flip. As discussed, the odds are, we will not see crazy pricing on the newer cards. Hell, is Jeter a $10 card even? And he's the greatest human being on the planet. He could cure cancer if he wanted to...

Those prices are temporary and will go higher as more people become aware of this set.

It's funny -- I was at my LCS over the weekend and asked them if they had any of these cards. They had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. It's strange -- I would think that Topps would market these with all their customers -- shops, members, ToppsNow buyers, but it still surprises me how many people have not heard about it. I think you're right -- there's a sizeable part of the market that still has no idea.

Also, Hoskins is the lowest printed rookie of any significance so far. I imagine Devers, etc will have much higher print runs when they come out. I've been keeping an eye on Hoskins and buying a few here an there.

As a former hobby shop owner (who sold Topps Now and embraced it to be clear) I can see why most shops don't touch them. Why should they? Where's the profit margin? So you come in and buy a Hoskins for $20. That's your last money from them on Topps Living as they will start buying them for $5 themselves. Unless you're a jerk and don't tell them of course!

Future value. Market value of each set will only go up as they sell out. Unless of course said card shop has a finite number of customers and does not forsee any future new business. In which case said card shop does not need to be in business anyways.
