Asked what he exchanged the ball for:

A ball, two hats, one bat - all signed.

Happy a legitimate fan got the ball. Could have squeezed a lot more at an auction house.

I've read that he uses a different type of wood for his bat than most, which gives it that sound. Well that plus his otherworldly strength

They say he hand-carved his bat from a mighty redwood while it was being struck by lightning.

Speaking of bats, it looks like the Dodgers are going to have to pony up more just one of those, a ball, and a couple of hats to the lady who caught Sho's first LA home run ball. She says she felt a little ambushed and kind of sounded like she wants a little more for it. I mean, I understand the Dodgers point, it's not like they're made out of money! Maybe they can give her the estimated 100k value of the ball, but with payment deferred until 2042.
We'll see...

I decided to trim down my Ohtani slab collection a bit to work towards consolidation (and also to fund my Jackie and Aaron runs). As part of this I took a picture of my "keepers" and thought I'd share.

If anyone's curious removed 29 slabs from my "PC."

700 for the win! Everything is beautiful except that eyesore BGS slab . Joking, we all have a few of those.

I'm far to paranoid to cross it to be honest. It's actually one of the worst card types to have in a BGS slab imo. I don't mind paper cards or just chromium cards in them but refractors lose so much luster in those baggies.

As someone that has graded more than 10 of those black refs, I agree with you and would leave it unless you're okay with a 9. The white on the rear corners are not as easily forgiven at PSA and the grading bar for Ohtani high-end rc stuff has risen in the last few years. Baggie or no baggie, it's a very rare and sought after card

Amazing collection! Did you decide to trim down to lower your risk exposure to Ohtani (scandal, performance, injury etc.). Or do you just like collecting Jackie and Aaron better?

The real reason is that I was lacking self-control when it came to picking up Ohtani stuff. I'd see a cool card or a rookie I didn't have already and just impulse buy it. That was getting in the way of my other hobby goals so this is a good way to stop it in its tracks.

I now have a strict Ohtani wishlist (only 5 cards on it) that I'm sticking to other than low-end raw stuff I can stick in my topload binder.

One I finish up the Jackie and Hank Aaron runs I might allow myself more leeway on Ohtani pickups of course.

Here's a random page of my Ohtani binder if you're curious what kinda stuff is in there.

Brutal.. Apparently Ohtani didn't say he met the fans, just that he talked to them (through the Dodgers) so something got lost in translation (again..). I'm sure the Dodgers were just trying to do whatever it took to get the ball to make Shohei happy without forking over a bunch of cash for it, and they just downplayed the whole thing when they got him the ball.

I hope Shohei works something out with them.

Are you increasing or decreasing your exposure today?
