He speaks so little that hearing anything from his mouth would have impact. He's done nothing in his career to date that should prevent him from getting the benefit of doubt.

It's not just the controversy. It's the temporary bump from joining the Dodgers and the fact he won't be pitching this season.

Going forward, there is much more uncertainty and risk with him than before. Will he still be able to pitch? If so, will he still be dominant as a pitcher? How will he age in his 30s? Will he meet the high expectations placed upon him by signing with the Dodgers and at least win one championship with them?

A lot of questions -- a lot of uncertainty.

We saw that dip in price from injury during September to November last year. The dodger bump was pretty negligible and his prices only started rising with spring training which is just cyclical fluctuation. The mystery of whether he returns a SP1 is something people have been risk assessing since the end of last summer. Unless there's news his rehab stalls or his arm falls off, there's nothing to price in until 2025.

Perhaps his prices would have fallen if he did not sign with the Dodgers? The Dodgers bump offset and negated the hit from his elbow injury.

There was a 3-4 month gap from the elbow injury and his dodgers signing. Have you bothered to look at the pricing data before suggesting this scenario?

I am going to wildly guess that's a "no," so here you go below. We are well below the peak pricing level prior to injury. And rightfully so. The dodger signing was not a magical price lift like you are suggesting.

Was there a drop in sales volume those months? I can't imagine his second elbow injury didn't impact his prices or sales totals. Many were also expecting him to sign with the Dodgers -- that could have affected his market.

I collect Ohtani. Hard. I sell Ohtani. Hard. 100% of everything I sell goes back into Ohtani. I'd be an idiot to not keep a pulse on the market if my goal was to elevate my collection. You have no clue what you're talking about.

Look at the huge dip. How is that not impactful. If you want to pull volume to determine price/mix, please be my guest. I don't do this for a living or even ancillary income.

I reserve creativity when it's required to resolve complex issues. There's nothing complex about your anecdotal comments and grade school memes.

But seriously, I think we're missing a few groups. We've already got:

1. People who don’t even like baseball.
2. People who are mad Ohtani chose the Dodgers over their team.
3. POMO
4. Racists

....

....Do we get to add "Financially dependent on Ohtani's continued popularity" as group #5?

Could we have a sixth group for "Teaches 'History of Baseball' at a university, just watched his team win the World Series, always found Ohtani to be a likable guy, and is only following the story for its potential historical impact"?

Because I would be in group #6.

What are you trying to tell him? Trueblue has been leading this thread for a long time posting the best cards and great advice. I started collecting Ohtani in 2021 and find his takes on Ohtani and his market very insightful.

So for transparency...what players do you collect? Do you collect Ohtani (do you have skin in the game)? Do you like Ohtani? Do you want to see him succeed or fail?

I collect Ohtani and I want to see him succeed. He might just be the most talented player of all time. He is exciting and good for the game of baseball. I will be holding my Ohtani cards long term.

I do not believe Ohtani was placing bets on baseball or any other sport. I think he was trying to help his friend and could be guilty of wire fraud, but if this is the case does not deserve any punishment from MLB, just a fine.

We shall all see what happens.

I have no Ohtani investments clouding my view.

Pulled a base Chrome RC from a box a while back, but that's about it.

I'm not going to make fun of you or TrueBlue for being overly-defensive, but I will say that you are, in fact, being a little overly-defensive here.

I'm a lapsed baseball fan (Cubs fan from late 80s to early 2010s) but it's been fascinating to read all the commentary here. People are very passionate about this situation for a variety of reasons.

Why don't you answer my other questions? And what are you trying to say? I don't invest in Ohtani. I collect Ohtani. The money I spend on cards is my fun money. So nothing is clouding my judgment. There is nothing about Ohtani or his past character that makes me think he is a criminal that threw his best friend under the bus.

I would recommend that you pause and take a second to read your last few comments out loud.

I'm struggling to find a tone of voice that doesn't make them sound rather reactionary.

Thanks!

He switched from pouring salt to pouring pink sprinkles. It was a thing for a hot minute last year.
