I liked Severence S1 and thought it was interesting and weird (Twin Peaks meets The Office meets Lost). But for some reason watching S2 week-to-week seemed more like a chore than entertainment. The whole situation just seemed too bleak.
Similar thing with Search Party which I am currently binging. I loved S1 but they set up a situation that made for a pretty bleak S2…. S3 was surprisingly strong considering a chunk of it takes place in court… and I’m starting S4 which is bleak so far (a kidnapping). |

Not really a binge but Adolescence was ok. Stephen Graham is great and the kid sociopath was really good too.

NetFlix's "Black Mirror" Season 7 (or Series 7, as the Brits who made it would say) is in the books for me. Terrific new crop, with good stories in all 6 new episodes, a couple of them at feature movie length, with one of those being a sequel to the Emmy Award-winning "U.S.S. Callister" episode.
Overall, this is among the best seasons, the main flaw being one of the performances in one story not being in sync with the superb level of acting that has otherwise characterized the show from the very beginning. Best of all, these were all proper advanced technology-based yarns which is to say there were thankfully none of the so-called "Red Mirrors" in this batch as was the case for the first time in 2023's Season 6. The "red" variety includes supernatural MacGuffins, which the series had eschewed, to its great credit up until then, and has thankfully returned to avoiding with this new season 7. Any anthology fantasy show can pump out stories with werewolves and genies and the like all day long. Black Mirror's greatest strength has always been hinging its stories on pure technology, albeit theoretical and far-flung technology in most cases, but things that are at least within the realm of possibility, and not fairy tales, all while speaking the human condition. Common People 10/10 Devastating, with fantastic performances from Chris O'Dowd & Rashida Jones Bête Noire 7.5/10 Great villain(s) in this one, but the ending could been a little better. Hotel Reverie 6.5/10 Interesting concept, well-realized, but flawed by the miscasting of Issa Rae as one of the leads. Rae was good, particularly in the more comedic aspects of the part, but was not up to the task of the dramatic scenes opposite the luminous Emma Corrin. This was an attempt to duplicate the romantic feels of "San Junipero" and "Hang The DJ", but it couldn't quite get there, the flawed chemistry between the actors making the intended landing impossible to stick. Plaything 9.5/10 Peter Capaldi is great here, and a couple of characters from the Emmy Award-winning choose-your-own adventure "Bandersnatch" make welcome appearances. Great finish. Eulogy 10/10 Wonderful, Emmy-worthy work from Paul Giamatti wandering through bittersweet memories via cutting edge visual sequences. USS Callister: Into Infinity 8.5/10 Well-made followup to the original with the full returning cast including Christin Milioti, fresh from her terrific turn on HBO Max's "The Penguin". I'll also say, not for nothing, that I've watched every single second of Black Mirror from the start without my face buried in my phone or computer, which I would think these show creators in particular would appreciate (and really should be required of all reviewers of basically anything). Don't have time to watch this, but would like it ruined before you ever do? Please go to the Spoiler Thread for single one line sentences for each episode, giving away the ending to each story. Overall season rating: 8.67/10

This season of Black Mirror is far and away better than season 6. Still have 1 more episode to watch though.

Crazy good reviews on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes.

Yeah. A bit of an older show now but still solid overall if you like Sci-Fi.

It's not a super fast paced action show. But there is that in it. The production quality improves in later seasons.

One more queston. A lot of the scenes I can barely see what is on the screen due to the lighting being so dark. Is that the setting on my monitor or is that how it is?

I remember a lot of stuff in the city parts being pretty dark in season 1. Don't really remember it being an issue after.

Weak Hero Class 1 (kDrama, English dub which I thought was very good) - This wasn't what I expected. From some reason I had it in my head that this show would be set in some dystopian society where bullies just relentlessly pick on the weak and this one kid fights back. Turns out this "weak" kid is kind of a psychopath and it's set in regular school with regular bullies (although they get drawn into taking a "gangster" down). It has a pretty realistic "heel" turn. I was bothered by the end when they didn't fully commit to the story as I think it would have been better if they did. I'd give it 7.5/10. The second season starts this week.

After watching Daredevil Born Again, I'm going to have to go back and binge watch the original Daredevil series since we didn't have Netflix when it came out but it is now on Disney+.

I'm working on From on MGM plus and it's really good.
Also working on El Fin on Prime, and that's really good too. An end-of-the-world dark comedy. It's in spanish, but with english subtitles. Really clever.

A Mike White specialty.
Here's some of the other more thought provoking things he's written: TV: "Enlightened" HBO series starring Laura Dern Movies: Chuck & Buck Year of the Dog The Good Girl

Binged season 1 & 2 of Silo recently.
Really good stuff, but feel like reveals are taking too long. |

"Silo" is based on 3 books and a few short stories.
Apple+ has renewed the series for Seasons 3 & 4, which will wrap up the story they're telling. For my money (which they get, as I subscribe), Apple's two best shows are "Foundation" and "For All Mankind".

Weak Hero Class 2 - It was pretty similar to Class 1. Big brawl in the last episode. Bigger in scope, but literally the main character wants to be left alone, relunctantly befriends a "nerd" and a "jock (well two jocks here)" and in this case they fight a sort of student mafia group instead of some bullies and a criminal. No heal turn by one of the friends like in Class 1. Probably 5/10 on this one. The fighting wasn't as shocking here since you see it in Class 1.

Watched season 1 of The White Lotus to see what all the hubbub was about and I really enjoyed it. Some cringe moments, some funny moments and tons of really awkward moments. Started season 2 and not a fan of reading subtitles but when I have more time I'll get through that too.

Mobland on Paramount + is great. Pretty much everything that Paramount+ is putting out is great. Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Tulsa King, Landman, 1923, all winners

I think Poker Face is the best show on tv right now. S2 dropped last week with 3 episodes (all A+) and new eps each Thursday. On Peacock.

Might be time for those who haven't to catch up on "King of The Hill" with the new series coming soon to Hulu. It's been about 15 years since the original series wrapped up and it looks like that amount of time has passed for the Arlen crew, too.
