Mid-range is floaters with forward momentum, I don't see much in the way of stop-and-pop or fadeaways. I don't know if I've ever seen him take a side-step or step-back (I googled it right now and there are 4 clips... total). Someone who watches on a night to night can correct me, but I haven't seen any meaningful additions to his game over the past 2 years, which makes his ridiculous MIP award seem even more ridiculous in retrospect (I would have given it to Poole or Bane)

Ah I do vaguely remember that! And I agree with the bolded. Idk what it is but he's not as 'cerebral' as, say SGA either. SGA probes, feels like he tests defenders to see what he can get, and plays within his skillset. Ja, as I've mentioned before, is a runaway train galloping into the paint. Sometimes someone much taller than him stands in the way, and sometimes Ja goes up and tries to score anyway, with the result being either a tremendously athletic play or a blocked shot or a contorted kick-out which doesn't hit a teammate at the opportune time as much as it bails out Ja from getting swatted.

I'd like to see something, anything, added to his game to get him to the next level.

I was necro bumping and big-upping Ja 4 pages ago when this thread was practically on life support and buried in the archives. People that discriminate same year draftees due to financial holdings are hilarious though. I enjoy them both. Seems more as though Acuna may be in the Ja maximalist/Fatboi minimalist category.


Not sure a social media poll really provides much insight into player progression/game analytics tho.

Ja Morant is shooting 35% (46 for 131) in the 4th quarter this season. He's 5 for 33 (15%) on threes and 37 for 60 (62%) from the line. He has a 43% TS.

I stumbled upon this today too - hard to figure out why he's been so bad in the 4th, unless it's simply that the play-calling gets so stale and it's just "screen for Ja so he can run into the paint" - and by the 4th he has less energy and the opposing defense has been guarding the same play(s) all game so they know exactly what to do.
