No, they're complete trash still. Wemby is just really really good and Castle has been fantastic.

Spurs are -7.4 without him on the court (near bottom of the league) with a terrible defense. Without Wemby and Castle the Spurs have the worst defensive rating in the league

With him and Castle on the floor the Spurs are +22.1 with a 130.8 offensive rating.

Sochan being their primary defender at multiple positions hurt in that respect as well. He may be returning soon iirc

You are correct. The Sochan lineups were really bad. Kinda mediocre defensively but awful offensively.

I’m not sure where Sochan fits on this roster. He can’t shoot and just kind of mucks up the floor. He’s surprisingly efficient this year as a scorer but they are low quality baskets and he sucks up a lot of usage that should be going to Wemby or the PG

I think Jalen is the best of the bunch but I am biased. He is elite on both ends of the floor. He's got primary ball handler written all over him when he and Shai part ways and he's super efficient

I like Chet but his injury history is very concerning.

Paolo looked awesome this year before the oblique but I just don't know if he can really be a 1a. Still feels very much like Blake Griffin reimagined for the 3pt era.

I think the 1a is and will be Franz... currently sitting 7th in EPM. They're 9-1 over their last 10 and this is with Paolo out.

Paolo as the #2 and still with room to improve as he matures makes them scary. Suggs is a dawg too and fits as a #3.

If this is the scenario the Magic are probably capped at a 2nd round exit.

Franz is a fine player. I don't think he's a 1a on a title contender

he's 23 and is sharing 99th percentile EPM with Embiid, Tatum, Luka, Shai and Giannis. And again, this is with their "best player" out. We can't safely assume what his ceiling is I don't think. I mean I guess you can try, but it's probably going to be wrong.

I don't put too much stock in EPM this early in the season. He's definitely having a great start to the year but there's not enough sample to draw any conclusions.

One thing I can say with certainty is that he's not a 96th percentile defender. You don't need 100 different metrics when you can just watch. He's fine, above average even but he's nowhere near elite. He benefits tremendously from having multiple other DPOY level defenders on the floor with him.

He's rarely on the opponents best player.

His offense is a lot more believable but even some of that is so far above average that I'm expecting regression and significant regression when Paolo is back. Franz doesn't strike me as a guy who can handle 30+% usage for a whole season AND maintain a 33% AST rate.

To me, Franz is what he is right now. I don't see where you're gonna get any more dramatic improvement. You're not squeezing any more usage out of him, and he's probably not going to improve his efficiency all that much. The metrics say he's not good in isolation or as a PnR ball handler.

The Magic offense is just not good with him as the primary creator.

Same and that's the main talk in Spurs spaces since he's close to returning. Heck of a competitor and does those little things so-to-say. But no one's quite sure how he fits in the SL. They can't afford the offensive gap with Wemby needing shooters but his defense is sorely needed. I wish they hadn't spent so much of last season experimenting with him but I kinda see why now.

But Devin is still working his way back in so maybe that's enough for it to work? idk

I think he would be fine off the bench as kind of a jack of all trades guy but just doesn't work next to wemby

Hawks are 500, and have won 4 in a row. They have an incredibly deep team. Luckily for them the Lakers have collapsed which could lead to them getting a pretty high pick. Dyson, De'Andre Hunter and Jalen Johnson have been the major catalysts. Jalen is averaging 20, 10, 5, De'Andre is averaging 20+, and Dyson has been exactly what the Hawks needed around Trae.
