This! My father grew up watching and collecting Mantle. So he told me about Mantle. At least I would have some kind of reason to collect him, (Im 38). Guys my age tell their kids about Griffey, Canseco, Mattingly, etc. And FYI...they care less about those guys than I cared about Mantle. Walking around the National...there wasn't a single kid with any significant card older than 2016. And these "kids" had cards worth more than most peoples cars.

I think this is gonna hit the vintage collectors hard one day. The hobby has fundamentally changed from collecting to more of a stock market.

I have been buying sealed topps series 2 hobby and jumbo. it has to be the next product to pop. With bat down acunas going for $1000 in psa 10 and for (now it appears) $350-$500 for psa 9, i can see a lot of people wanting to buy just one box at 6-1 or 12-1 in the hopes of hitting the big card. (Not to mention Torres's ascent that would lower the odds to 3-1 and 6-1 to get one of the two.) The autos include those guys as well.

Didn't need to see the hairy leg covering my whole screen, but it's encouraging to know that "Bat Down" in retail wasn't a myth after all.

You hear that? That's right, those are series 2 retail boxes, hangers, blasters, etc. being sold left and right!

If you're a collector, there's nothing to be worried about.

How funny would it be if someone was just messing with everyone? He just happened to have a bat down SP, and showed it as being pulled from a jumbo pack. Just to make everyone go buy retail...lol. I still do not know of anyone personally that has pulled one. It is always a "friend of a friend".

and to think, some people here (who I thought were trustworthy and full of hobby knowledge) had it wrong simply talking out their pants stating this was a hobby only release.

There have been two long term members who have claimed to have pulled or seen and been trading for the Acuna 1/1 platinum. Why lie about it?

Still a long shot hitting Acuna SP in S2 retail though, compared to hitting an update Acuna

My first half hour of walking around the national, I couldn't believe how much vintage still dominated. I felt like I was the oddman out searching for Acuna & Trout.

Eventually I found plenty, but the point is, I don't want vintage to ever die, even if I have barely any myself. If people can become bored of Mickey Mantle, then as the decades go by, they will just as easily get bored by MJ, Trout, Brady, (Acuna), etc

more importantly for me is that for people looking for rookies a no Acuna/no Gleyber s2 rip leaves you with just mylar and tears whereas a dissapointing update break still leaves you with some nice RC goodness. If you can find the s2 retail super cheap it may be a fun gamble I guess....
