Irrational rookie year investment syndrome remains undefeated. 'Twill inevitably continue with our classy Blanco Mamba next year.

Prayers up to Papi Wadlow. I'm no Doogie Howser (pause), but I'd think a blood clot isn't easily replicable. He should return just fine.

In the meantime, now we gon see who the real fans are.

The Prizm Nebula went from $290,000 bid to $330,000 bid after the DVT news. That’s over $400K with the fees with two days to go.

100%.

Expectations are always high for #1 draft picks, rarely do such players ever meet them.

Funny how quickly guys pile on when something like this happens. Wemby is a helluva player for a 21 year old kid. Every loves bad news.

Healthy 21 year olds don't have DVTs, though. He either has a clotting disorder... or being 7'3" is not easy.

It's almost certainly the latter, but this is the first of many health issues for him. It's hard to stay healthy that big. We've seen it in NBA and other sports 1000 times.

That's the concern ppl had of Wemby all along: long term health issues, not just the missed half season (and building chem with DAF). This simply affirms it... and even earlier than expected.

Chris Bosh? (most notable NBA guy with blood clots)

It ended his career. (although he wasn't very young when he got them)

Normal ppl just go on blood thinner for awhile or forever, but athletes can't do that.
We'll see for Wemb... hopefully it's a one time thing from flights, etc... but definitely NOT normal for 21yo healthy dude.

I think it was Brandon Ingram. Pretty sure it was in the arm like Wemby and not the leg like Bosh.

Edit: Oops, didn't see last year. Will leave my idiotic post up above.

According to Windhorst it was both Ingram and Ausar.

Will be watching how the Wemby market will react to this. I will definitely pick up some Wemby for cheap over the Summer.
However, this sucks and comes at the worst time. I think the Spurs would have made the Playoffs.
I like that guy and hope he will be healthy again sooner than later.

It's screwed. This is a worse and sooner injury than anyone thought. Values will dip big. Sealed wax 2023 NBA will probably be cut roughly in half.

It's a risk to buy, though.
He won't be allowed to do much/any weightlifting or contact practices for at least 6 months due to blood thinner risks (and that was his hope to bulk up, avoid ortho injuries).

It's very bad news for him. He needed to build some chem with DAF, and that can't happen now.

That's why I was calling him a bust on Page 1. Obviously he's a freak when healthy. I'm not going to pile on saying I was right because blood clots are serious health concerns (compared to knee/ankle/leg issues.

I'm not gonna downplay the seriousness nor overreact to the point that people are calling Wemby's career over already. People are ignoring the Thompson Twin and Brandon Ingram had this same or similar problem and came back fine. We'll see how it turns out but to assume it's the worst case scenario is premature in my opinion

Blood clots at 21 is very unusual.

Did he take the vacks?

He will be fine, but he'll miss months of training. That's the main issue.

The human body's just not meant to be super huge.
You don't see a ton of really tall old ppl. It's harder on the heart, joints, everything.
A lot of real tall ppl have Marfans, gigantism, irregular heartbeat, various diseases.

Worst case, Wemb finds out he has AFib, Marfan, Lupus, some clotting disorder, etc.
More likely, he just takes blood thinner 3-6 months... but misses training/ bulking / games.
Staying super tall + skinny will be many ortho injuries with NBA training and travel at his size. That was the fear all along.
