Pat from the Play Tessie podcast isn’t a definitive source on Devers conditioning.

Believe what you want, but that article is one of many. I told you how you can find them. In that article I linked, it says "a reporter" asked Devers about his weight, so no--it was not just one guy talking about it.

The question was is there *any* evidence, and there is indeed evidence. You can choose whether to believe it or not.

Just like you could choose to believe he would have 28 home runs by this point in the season if he played all his games in Oracle--something you probably believe since you're pumping him, but something I don't find credible at all. I wonder if those stadium swaps take weather into account?

A reporter asked how much he weighed which really has nothing to do with conditioning. He’s played in 140 games basically every season of his career. There’s basically nothing but typical Red Sox media innuendo to say he’s out of shape.

That sure would be a turn of events

I'm surprised at the discussion this thread has devolved into. Devers has been one of the most consistently good players in the league. He is having another great year. He will instantly be the best hitter on the Giants by a mile and will make them better offensively.

The Red Sox didn't get a great return for him. They probably didn't even get half of fair return. But, that's because they needed to get rid of him as the relationship had deteriorated to that point. Buster Posey took advantage of that. When viewed from that standpoint, you can understand why they made this trade.

From someone not a fan nor hater of your franchise, it sure seems to me that Breslow has been jerking Devers around all year. Again, Devers is deserving of some criticism, any fan would want him to suck it up and agree to play 1B after the Casas injury. But Breslow is looking like a fool this year, and there is more and more coming out that increasingly makes the Red Sox look like a clown show

According to multiple sources, Devers was also upset when the rookie Campbell volunteered to play first base this season — interpreting it as a slight to his own stature.

Not sure why all the sudden HR's are the focus with Devers.

If he can hit 25+ and drive in over a hundred. i would call it a huge win for the Giants.

Bottom line: The Giants gave up a pitcher with an ERA over 6.00 this year and three other unproven players for an established and consistent HR hitter and RBI producer.

Right now? Massive Giants pick-up.

So...he was mad that someone volunteered to play a position he said (publicly at that!) he wouldn't play and a position it would be unfair to expect him to learn on the fly?

Anyone still want to defend him and say this guy isn't a clubhouse cancer?

If it is a clown show and if this becomes the new normal in Boston at least I got 4 pretty world series trophy's to look at in the past 21 years.

I think people are overblowing this all but hey I might be a biased fan who likes the Red Sox over any player on the Red Sox. I just hope they can keep winning and If they don't? There is always next year

Joon Lee's recent report paints a picture of organizational dysfunction.

For a guy who was supposedly a cancer he got a lot of love in that Red Sox dugout yesterday when he hit that home run.

Go watch the Tigers dugout from 2012 with Prince Fielder and Avisail Garcia while Garcia was banging Fielder's wife.

Clubhouse cancer can look different it does not always need to be a team alienating a player or a player not participating in celebrations.

Baseball is better when the Red Sox are good. Trading away your star players and not acting like one of the biggest franchises in baseball, while having only one single 90+ win season and playoff appearance since last winning the Series, is just not it. The past 5ish years just seem like watching a completely different franchise

That's how far Lee's article goes back.

respect your opinion, but you can't seriously be thinking this trade will possibly workout for the Sox long term.

This organization has become a laughingstock.

I am seriously hoping it does. Do I think it will? probably not but it could. It is a fascinating trade and one that will have ramifications through the end of this decade.

Breslow represents all that sucks about baseball these days. He certainly shares some of the blame. But Devers did himself, and his teammates, zero favors.

Awz, you are truly a dedicated fan, and a respected member of the BO community, and I appreciate that. Your team first approach is often the right one, but here I disagree.

Under no circumstances do you trade your best player for 4 nickels on the dollar, and blame it on his unwillingness to move positions (twice) after getting blindsided by the team upon reporting to ST. This was clearly a salary dump that the team is parading around as “he wasn’t being a team player.” By all accounts he was a great teammate and produced incredibly during a very difficult season in which he completely lost trust in management for treating him like a scrub.

FSG just signed a new player to Liverpool THREE DAYS AGO and has to pay his old team $135million. That’s not a coincidence.

This group has a track record of deteriorating relationships with its star players and running the organization and treating the players like the owners of the 1910s.

If we thought they were going to have a hard time signing free agents after the Mookie debacle, it’s going to be ten times as bad now.

This has been one of the most poorly run franchises of the last 6 years, and frankly I’m disgusted at how the last 6 months have played out.

He's an employee getting paid $300+ million.. He should be willing to do whatever they ask, even if it's emptying the garbage after games. $300+ million, I'll do whatever the team asks. He thought he was running the team, he found out different.

Good luck Raffy, thanks for the memories!
