100 card checklist would be 160,000 parallels alone.

Looks like hobby based on the ebay listings- they include a pink lasers and variant cover pink lasers, those are the numbered. They are hobby/epack only.
1 numbered per box is not good at all. Really hoping that’s not the case. In personally for 3 hobby boxes at like 900. 3 numbered for $900 is brutal (like pink laser /992). Smh.

Well if you go up thread to that analysis MarvelCardFan did, a huge number of boxes was estimated, up to like 240k boxes. So as ridiculous as 160k boxes would be, it’s very possible.
This is approaching 1992 junk era- 92MM was 350k boxes. Could be higher than half that. Without the junk wax price though…these are $250-300. It depends what’s going on with epack…a chance epack is loaded I guess.

Per the analysis above, there are like 288,000 numbered cards. The pink lasers total almost 100k for just that.
The estimate arrived at was 1.19 numbered cards per box. This small sample of 2 boxes seems to support that.

BOX HITS!
Base Set parallels and variants: Blue Traxx, Canvas, Clear Cut, Rainbow, Leather, Lenticular Variant Cover – Rainbow Parallel Corner Box Creations, Fantastic Covers, and/or Battle Spectrum Numbered cards aren't even mentioned as a box hit, I wouldn't even assume I'm guaranteed any from a box although it would obv be disappointing. I believe we try to estimate the future too much and are surprised when it doesn't play out that way, even now we are getting worked up over a two box sample lol people estimated Avengers wasn't hitting e-pack....and it did. I still plan on getting a box and am excited eitherway, I'm glad there's no guarantees I almost bought Platinum original because the sell-sheet said something like 3 numbered parallels under /99 a box.....then board members informed me that wasn't the case. I'll wait and see how breaks go on this. I also think it's odd to consistently be surprised at high-print runs in 2024 when that is the norm, we aren't going back to smaller print runs anytime soon |

I mean I’m going to enjoy/collect the set either way. It’s gonna be a great looking set. It’s hard not to think a little bit of value when you’re dropping $300 a box though, and for many people the total spent into the thousands. If it turns up it it’s just 1 numbered per box, and over half of those are pink lasers, yea I admit I’ll be kinda disappointed, $900 isn’t cheap for me. While UD print runs are up (although not all- 2022MM was about 14k boxes), 200+ thousand hobby boxes is another level….and that’s not even taking into account blasters. I will say UD is certainly milking the Marvel license right before it’s lost- probably the most I’ve ever seen a company do before losing a license. Not just in the number of new products coming out this month, but the print runs no doubt. You seem to not be surprised by a 200k+ hobby box print run but I am. We are getting into a sizeable fraction of the the 1992 era print run of MM, with the major difference being back then Marvel cards were basically mass market, where tons of kids collected them, whereas today Marvel cards are so niche. I mean in some ways it’s brilliant for UD…I don’t know what these cost direct, but if physical hobby was like 150 that could be pushing $50 million for just hobby alone. Talk about maxing the revenue before losing the license!

If only….
That’s kinda the irony here. It could possibly be near junk wax numbers…yet decidedly non- junk wax prices. Probably not a bad move to wait though. Obviously won’t be $30 but I could see prices fall. MM XL hobby boxes go for like $150-180 on eBay, that dropped at 300. And this print run is probably larger. Can’t fault UD for playing the game and maxing whatever they can before it’s over. I think back to other companies like Rittenhouse whenever they lost the marvel card license (in what- 2014ish?). I don’t remember them releasing a billion marvel sets the month before losing it, some of them with ginormous print runs.

I can't even imagine the crazy profit margins UD must be making on some of these reprinted art sets. You can buy a Playstation 5 for the price of a couple boxes. Wasn't the original platinum also 1 numbered card per a box?

There is no way this can hold @ $300 if its 1-2 numbered card / box that is insanity

So if 92MM is actually around 1 total numbered card (still an if)…then it’s a lot different than regular Platinum.

at 48 cards per box ... yeesh. Well my ebb and flow has once more flowed toward the blasters b/c of the price per card. I've been flirting with picking up a hobby in addition to the blasters just for the chance at some of the cooler stuff but I don't think I can stomach it if that's the way they're being packed out. What an initially very odd release.

Do we think this is coming out on epack?
It does say epack on checklist, that means it almost has to, right? The reason I wonder is because that will greatly affect my strategy for collecting this set. If it’s gonna be on epack, I’ll wait and buy 99% of the singles in the comc flood.

Just got confirmation from someone who has opened few boxes. 1 numbered per box. Very disappointing and bizarre product. I guess UD doesn’t care to please marvel customers as they don’t need to anymore.
Edit: someone else said 3 in his box (including 1 pmg). Crazy box! So there’s a lot of variability. Good luck, guys! Last edited by MarvelCardsFan; 12-09-2024 at 01:49 PM. |

I did notice the edges of the backs are prone to damage on some of these from ebay scans…just like the 92s (haven’t come far haha). Could make grading and getting 10s not so easy…which makes it more interesting tbh.

Base Wolverine sold for $19.99 today lol......will never get the FOMO for a base card that will be $1.50 once blasters hit.

I noticed the base aren’t full-bleed, that is interesting. Perhaps the border is needed for parallels. But that kinda differentiates the look of this base set from the original 92 set at least.
