Also, to play fair:

- Married for 15 years. We’ve slept apart maybe a dozen nights across those years. We’ve typically worked within walking distance of each other.

- No

- Yes

- Grad student. Lower-middle class? Was raised middle class before my dad made it big and we had a few upper class years before the cancer treatments trained the family resources.

Ok, that’s what’s Joobs thinks.

I feel like Jason would buy the kid a beer and listen to his stories.

At least you know you can be friends with his wife. Sounds like he's cool with it

I see you have nothing else to say. Ill buy you a beer, and Ill put it on my tab so you will have more gambling money.

You would think in all your years you would know how to put together a coherent paragraph on a topic like this. Hate to see it.

Reframe the question: Can college-aged boys and girls just be friends? Do good things happen when college-aged people in relationships go to parties and out drinking with groups of the opposite gender?

Now how do his responses read?

If nothing else, this thread is probably going to be a fantastic resource for any woman wondering if men think they can just be friends.

Good. We got a starting point.

Now if we go back to your post, I made the over the top reply to, your worldview is Kindergarten Cop:

And because of that, they can have zero in common.

The reality is they can have any number of things in common to build a friendship from that transcends sex organs.

Serious question.

What does everyone do with their female non wife friends? Is the wife always invited?

How deep are the conversations you having? Are they surface level?

And since you've been dating someone else/married has your conversations changed comparatively to when you were both single?

Married 16 years.
Wife is my best friend
Handful of close guy friends and their wives.
It works for me. Other people are different. That’s cool too.

All my friends (and even my TAs) are male. I’m “friends” my married friends’ wives, but I’m not texting or calling other than maybe to set up a surprise birthday party. And usually my wife is on the group text because she’s part of the planning committee.

Female “friends” to me at most look like the woman in my PhD program who is from Haiti and 20 years older than me. She’s a former Marine and a wonderful person and often hosts cook outs for all the grad students. I’ll chat with her about school and our profession when we’re in the office together—but that’s really it for me.

And no. I’m not “friends” with any of my students—male or female.

Usually just go out and grab dinner, get a beer or go over to the other person's place. Probably 70% of the time my gf is there now, and 30% not. Usually that would just be a schedule conflict though if she or I didn't go

Deep is usually dependent on recent life events for either party. Would be as deep with my gf as without and we had 12 years ago.

And I guess I’ve aged to where I’ll be disappointed for her to say no, but I’m adult enough to say that’s her prerogative.
