Beautiful cards. I’m guessing you submitted them?

Was waiting to upgrade mine because I figured the pop would go up. It has, of course, but seems like prices have too...

Hey guys,
what are your thoughts on his 2004 UK Traditions Football World Stars?
Just grabbed one for a fair price as I'm priced out of a Mega Cracks & Mundi Cromo

This card has had quite a journey and is now a contender for the best item in my collection:

2004 Panini Megacracks 71BIS SIGNED by Anish Cards, on Flickr

One of 3 known Megacracks RC’s signed by Leo!

Last year I saw a post by a guy selling one, but when I made an offer he told me he couldn’t sell it. However, he gave me the contact info of the person who had gotten it signed. Turns out, she sees Leo frequently - at least she used to before COVID - and was willing to get one signed for me.

The first one she got signed turned out to be a counterfeit card, so I sent it back along with this card, which I had bought from Spain. Because of COVID, it took her a few months before she saw Leo and was able to get it signed, but I finally have it in hand.

Between this one, hers, and the one briefly offered by her friend, there are only 3 out there I know of. And with Leo increasingly reclusive there may not be more. Definitely a holy grail for me.

Does anyone have a good explanation for why the 2005 MGK is so difficult to find, and why the vast majority of copies are absolutely beat? Not that it’s easy to find 2004 copies, especially ones in high grade, but it is drastically easier than 2005.

Yeah, there’s a QC issue with the corners and edges for that year in particular. It’s crazy that even for 2020-21, there are QC issues (mainly surface). I guess it’s good in that it keeps the PSA 9/10 pops low and makes it worth opening, but I can’t imagine how people here would react if the typical card from a pack was a 6. It’s like opening something from the 70’s haha.

I’m hoping to find one in PSA 10 and my friend and I will be submitting a few, but I’m not too optimistic. Will be an interesting chase...

Good luck! I own two 8s along with a small handful of lower grades. Have one at PSA now that I’m hoping for an 8-8.5 on.

Yes. I have all the true base except for 2004. Will pick it up at some point this year, just waiting for the right copy. Doubt I get back most of the copies I have at PSA until next year sadly.

Same. Ignore the Xavi, but here's my 2014WC Messi. Pulled it back when 2014 WC was live (purple so /99)

Nice. Yes, not worth submitting for a while...

Look forward to seeing your run, though!

That card is a beauty.

Also Anish I love that mega crack and the story behind it.

This isn't card related directly but just happened to stumble onto this Messi video from his Barca B days. Just so insanely natural, we will never see this ever again in our lifetime. You can have your Haaland's and Mbappé's, nothing comes close to this guy

Which is what i'm fairly certain people said about Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Platini and Zidane

There's always someone else.

I kind of agree with you, but it might take years for the next legend to come.

Yes, he’s an unparalleled genius in my lifetime - across all sports.

There will never be anyone *better*, for the simple reason that Messi is in the conversation for the best ever at everything he does - touch, dribbling, short passing, vision, finishing, free kicks, etc. In order for him to be better at his weaknesses, he’d have to be worse at his strengths.

Could there be another player at that level? Maybe in a few decades, but it would require an extremely rare combination of supreme talent, a nurturing environment, and sustained fitness and desire to remain at the top. Once in a lifetime perhaps.

I kind of rate messi and ronaldo at the same level, just below Pele and Maradona

I rate Messi and Ronaldo as equal too, and frown at the tribalism surrounding them both. It's like dweebs arguing over consoles.

They are two completely different players, there's room for them both.
