Morosi posted that Ohtani is en route to Toronto today...

people on twitter tracking that jet from JW to Toronto say it's about to land.

If Ohtani doesn't sign with Jays. How likely a "my son bought it accidently" return will occur?

If he signs with the Blue Jays it would be great for baseball.....huge market, nice city, good team with plenty of young talent....

those goalposts have legs

your initial argument was that Ohtani would be less popular then someone on third line

now its that the Jays won't be as popular as the Leafs

no one is arguing that the NHL doesnt reign supreme here but that doesnt all of a sudden mean that no one pays attention to the Jays. Somewhere around 50% of the population are Jays fans. The fanbase is 20M strong.

Ohtani will explode here if they sign him. The city is already buzzing about it today.

Thankfully, with ebay's new offer function, you get auto payment.

Moved two of them today at that price.

In Toronto yes. Your response was that Jays are more popular than the Leafs in the rest of Canada

Nice strawman. All I said is Ohtani will always have a backseat to the Leafs in Toronto

Whichever team Ohtani goes to will of course get a large bump in popularity.

This guy has had the best 3-year stretch of anyone in MLB history.

Toronto is a great city and they are passionate about their sports. Yes, hockey is supreme there, but look at how they've supported the Raptors all these years, esp. 2019.

Chicago is similar. It's a Bears town, but we're still passionate about all our teams.

Two things can be true at the same time. Toronto loves the Jays and is one of the best sports cities in the world. And that there is no other city that has a bigger gap between the popularity of their top team(Leafs) and the city's baseball team.

One thing is for sure is that the Jays are probably the worst case scenario for his card prices for any team he could've picked, including the Angels. People discount the value of having the team on the rookie card match the current team

Have you heard of Barry Bonds from 1992 - 2004? Every year he was the best player that year.

Shohei is incredible and Bonds didn't pitch, but call us when he has 2 healthy seasons in a row.

Sosa, Hamilton, Arod had incredible 3 year runs too.

bummed, really hoped he'd stay on the west coast and play in the NL west. I live in AZ, selfish reasons.

your initial argument wasn't that the Leafs are drastically more popular then the Jays though

it was that third line players like Max Domi or Calle Jarnkrok would be more popular in Toronto then Ohtani would be if he signed here and then proceeded to win the 2024 world series

that is nonsense and shows a total lack of understanding about sports in this city

if you'd said he'd be less popular then like Taveras or Marner or Nylander then ya, sure, you're correct. But you said 3rd line and that is just not accurate.

Google Trends for Ontario has the Blue Jays/Leafs at nearly even over the past 5 years. Freebbasing strikes again.

https://trends.google.com/trends/exp...%2F0j6tr&hl=en

Compare that chart to Kansas City

Toronto demographics have gone from 57% to 44% European over the last 20 years. Is hockey that big among the non-European descendants? That is just city proper not entire metro area.
