Looking forward to Ohtani possibly coming to Texas. If that happens, one of the 3 teams he is interested in playing for, that wil be huge and in the division.

And you're 100% correct that the patch is also a giveaway. Here's a shot from another game that has a clear angle on it.

Love this!
Thanks for your research!

Feels like the math is probably lost in translation with his gift. Either every school is given 3 gloves or 60,000 gloves. Both don't make a lot of sense so I am curious what it actually is.

Really generous either way, and he will continue to solidify himself as an icon in Japan.

Nope, that seems to be accurate. Per Google Translate, the first Japanese sentence translates directly as - "We will be donating approximately 60,000 junior gloves, three each to approximately 20,000 elementary schools in Japan."

Just a few thoughts on the Sho market as we head into winter.

Overall, I have been happy with my acquisitions (some still enroute), but I have been continued to be amused by the lack of volume for rare autos. There have been less than 10 each of Bowman Pitching, TC, Finest, and even GQ since Sho's exit. These aren't low PR autos - all have base versions with over 200 copies. There just isn't a lot of supply or willingness to sell. In general, I think the rookie card autos continue to be the most unfazed group of Ohtani cards. That said, the other side of the coin is that there are less big buyers for the five figure big ones. There's definitely some buying opportunities when more than one of these is ending at the same time - we can only buy so many. I'd say this group has declined ~20% from pre-injury.

Non-auto parallels also have low volume but have been a little more available. TC update from refractor to blue has fallen the most with #150 TC holding stronger. Gold+ has stronger demand and those have only fallen 20% or so from peak. Finest continues to be relatively cheap and best value in my opinion. Overall, I'd say this group has declined 20-30% pre-injury with wide variation.

Graded base market got destroyed, as many predicted and it's gotten to a point where these cards may be a good buy. Pretty much both flagships and Bowman rookies in gem mt are below $100. There's a greater than good chance you will make money buying now and selling in spring. Only problem is that it's a volume play (buying and selling) and you gotta have the time. This group has declined 40-60% pre-injury.

Graded semi-rare (think flagship gold, rainbow foil, Heritage variation) has been very lumpy. Some have sold for 45% pre-injury and then bounce back the next week for 40% higher. The price variation tells me the semi-rare market is the softest and a best opportunity for a deal. This group is wide at 20-60% drop from pre-injury.

Non-RC autos fell off a cliff, again, as expected. There was no reason for them to be flying so close to rookie auto pricing to begin with, and there is a growing affection for the original auto style. I'd continue to stay away unless you're acquiring a low # from a desirable set. Ohtani will continue to sign. Just not the original way. This group has declined~30-40% pre-injury.

In general, I would only advise buying non-RC Ohtani if it's for PC. I've ran into a few that have immensely appreciated from dumb luck (gilded '22, Cosmic '22), but it's just an uphill value prop when you look at the drop on non-RC stuff.

Picked up at the local show today, she won’t gem so buy & hold for awhile. My biggest single card purchase since getting back into cards.

Just a gut feel, but Ohtani might choose Texas (if Texas goes all-out for him).

-warm weather
-all-time great manager
-great team, does not wilt under pressure (literally the WS champs)
-stadium w/ retractable roof (no need to worry about the elements)
-with 4 opposite field HRs in 3 games in Texas last June, it looks like he likes hitting there.

You mean like he ‘might’ choose NY or Seattle or ‘might’ consider the Dodgers too

Yeah would not be all that surprised if he goes there - I would bet he's at least thought about Seager hitting behind him, in light of his postseason performance. And Langford will more than likely make the Opening day roster - what an insane lineup that would be, from top to bottom.

Where does Langford play?

Asking. Not questioning.
