Sure if he comes back fine from this TJ surgery and does what he did this year for 6-7 more years, we can discuss it but if he's never the same again, N-O. No hall of fame either. Ken Griffey had more than double the amount of HRs at the same age as Ohtani. Yeah he didn't pitch but the man had 8 CONSECUTIVE gold gloves at this point. If Ohtani is never the same, he was absolutely a flash in the pan. A Grant Hill. A Derrick Rose of baseball.

It is so obvious who plowed money in at the top in these threads. Just pure delusion.

You can hold all you want but you just wait. If this man gets Tommy John surgery and sits all of 2024, we are talking 20 months until he plays again. Nobody is going to be giving a single thought to Shohei Ohtani this time next year. And I GUARANTEE you his card prices will reflect that reality.

Does your teacher know you’re using your phone right now?

Got no beef with you buying his cards. Might by some myself on this dip. My issue is with the cope and delusion. My critique is actually very helpful if you have the ability to see reality for what it is not what you want it to be. In any sort of collecting/investing, you trade the market you have not the one you wish you had. And the reality is that Ohtani's market today is vastly different than it was 24 hours ago.

Speaking of heavy bags, I've got a handful of TC Refractors I bought off COMC for under 10 bucks, 100+ base RCs I'm in for about 2 bucks each, a PSA 10 Black I paid $250 for, and plenty other 20x'ers. I'm gonna drown under all these bags. Throw me a life preserver bro?

So you are the person that should be coping hard the least, because you are fine even if his prices get whacked 50%. WHICH, IF he gets TJ and he sits '24, they absolutely will.

Congrats by the way, genuinely happy for you.

Let me guess you invested in JRod? I’d be bitter too.

You do realize even IF he gets the Tommy John, he will be playing next season, just not pitching.

There's no "coping". I don't care where his prices go, I think alot of people in this thread don't. It's a collection. They could double tomorrow or they could halve tomorrow, it makes no difference to me because I don't plan to sell for at least a decade or whenever I get bored of cards. I'm honestly thrilled with lower prices(of course not at an injury's expense) because there's still some stuff I want to buy in the coming offseason

This is what we are dealing with in 2023 guys. I so so dislike seeing these types at card shows.

Would not be surprised if it's Geoff's kid.

Heard a commentator this morning asking, "can he even hit after surgery? Like his arm is going to be in a cast." Bruh, 2019 wasn't that long ago, WTF lol.

We are sorry all other players not named Ohtani went down the past 2-3 years
There's plenty who went up, they just weren't the hot topics on Blowout. You should expand your baseball card mind beyond who Blowout thinks is cool

(Kershaw 3x'd, Scherzer up, Posey, Judge, Harper etc)

This made me laugh because you go on this long diatribe basically slamming Ohtani and calling him at best overrated and worst flash in the pan that nobody remembers....yet you'd still be willing to buy the dip

If Ohtani is hitter only from here on out, at a similar level to 2023, do values maintain?

No need, I do well following my own sales figures. I've done well with all of those names and know the trends very well.

If you're interested in me so much give me a follow snarky ass

Don't you have another thread to revive and a fanbase to piss off? Is Ohtani and Judge threads not enough, or are you attempting to revive any others and share your investing wisdom?

Only needing to know so that can either 1) block or 2) avoid the thread. Thx

Best hitter in baseball with 50+ HRs? Surely up from here. To assume he's gonna do it at this pace again is not a great bet, possible of course, but it's alot to expect. Also, his two worst hitting seasons by far were the only two seasons he didn't pitch

He’ll be aight. He just needs to sign with the yanks and hit fitty home runs next year. If he re-signs with the angels. The drop will be sustained.

I did not get in when you did...I started collecting Ohtani in 2021. I probably have about 600 Ohtani RC cards at this point (mainly low to medium end). I am probably in my Ohtani cards at 5-10x what you are in at this point, but even at that price point I was way ahead to this years market that took off after his WBC.

Not sure why so many people think that Ohtani will not be hobby relevant moving forward. I think Ohtani wants to be an all time great and will play for a very long time in MLB. If he makes it to 10 years he will be a HOF no matter what his stats are just based on his two way accomplishments.

My predictions are that his high end cards will fall 10-20%. Mid end cards 20-30% and his base RC's might dip around 50%.

My other prediction is that he will come back to be a two way superstar for at least 3-5 more years...and then probably be a full time DH or RF for the remainder of his career.

I am not worried about my Ohtani bags! For transparency...I am a huge Wander and Tatis bag holder!
