LOL 50%? That's what you need to buy more? Nothing is dropping 50%. You won't be adding

Won't be shocked if they completely shut down Ohtani for the season, even if he could pull a Bryce Harper and continue to hit. Angels are DONE this year and only reason to have him still hit is for ticket sales for a greedy owner.

I made a joke the other day saying that even if Ohtani's arm fell off and he didn't pitch again this year, he'd still win MVP. Guess we'll find out if that's actually true or not. Also, sorry for jinxing Shohei. =/

Called it, again. Really hate to see it though. You have to protect these guys against themselves sometimes. He’s such a special talent.

HR Title and MVP award probably means something to him. If he's not pitching in 2024 anyways I see no reason to stop hitting because we're so close to season's end.

He's probably already locked up the HR title in the AL...Robert is 2nd with 33. Has an outside shot at the triple crown (1st HR, 3rd RBI, 3rd BA) but Yandy Diaz is 25 points better than him currently for BA.

I'm as upset about this as anyone else. I have two Ohtani cards that were probably worth about 6k yesterday that are now worth about half that today...

But I'm not selling today.

The dude rakes. He will continue to rake. We just won't see him pitch for a while. And that is okay.

Be positive friends - the elbow will heal and the GOAT will roar again!

I was mocked and told I didn’t understand baseball. I’ll take my lap for the BO bums. I truly do hate to see it for the player though. He’s special. I hope he makes a full recovery and gets back to playing at the same level. It’s just too much workload for Ohtani year after year. You can’t pitch and hit at that level, that much all the time. Guys can barely make it thru a season doing 1 of those things. 2 consistently just isn’t possible. These things will continue to happen as he gets older.

I've stated in the past that eventually, Ohtani will have to choose between pitching and hitting full-time as his body won't be able to take the wear and tear of doing both year after year. But I was thinking that time wouldn't be till he approached his mid-30's. He may be forced to give up pitching full-time sooner.

What a crap way to start the morning...Shohei thread up top means he must of hit some Shobombs in the second game, but nooooooooooo.......

Still the best player in baseball.

Still my fave.

But what a time to get hurt...you think it hurts your checkbook! I can't fathom how much money this will cost him.

Anyone who bought in the last couple months is going to get burned hard on prices and will be underwater for a long time. I don't think the drop will be that steep(depending on what you bought) but I don't see prices coming back to where they were in the next 18 months if he isn't pitching next year

Ohtani will be fine. Maybe instead of a $550M contract, he "only" signs a $450M contract that is more incentive laden. He's getting a healthy 9 figures regardless.

It's funny to see everyone blaming "Ohtani's workload"(wrong). You guys need to educate yourself on the history of major pitching injuries of Angels pitching over the past 5-7 years. It's the worst in baseball by far and it's well known how bad their training staff is.

There is no need to be upset.

Sho will be back pitching again. Greatest MLB season ever about to be in the books along with bagging MVP award number 2

If you think putting money in JRod/Bobby/Corbin/Juan/Ron is better, eeek, GL

No they won’t, buying grading selling for Ohtani will be a great strategy for a long time.

He's not going to rise significantly in price when he's just hitting lol. Straight delusion

LOL there's zero chance you are paying the same prices now as two days ago. Zero

EDLC touched Ohtani, and hours later Ohtani was diagnosed with his injury. Coincidence? (just kidding)

Just awful for baseball. It's not worth speculating yet what's next for his pitching career, but at the very least I do feel confident he'll still continue to be an all-world offensive player. Beyond that I really hope we'll see him starting again sometime in the future. I'm not ready to say goodbye to the 2 way wonder yet

On the hobby side, interested to see how big of an impact this has. The fact that he likely can still continue hitting, and likely at a high level, offsets a lot of the hit we'd normally see for a mere mortal. But this is another reminder that collecting >>> investing/speculating/flipping. Hoping to find a few good cards to add during this period!

Ohtani’s been riding the peak of peak wave for a little while now. Will be interesting to see how big the diamond hands holders believe over the next few months.

Investors need him to pitch and hit. He’s of course awesome at hitting but he’s not these prices great if he just hits moving forward (going to be 30 next season). For the record…he will pitch again!

I read he already knew about the injury when that happened.

I said that anyone bought in the last few months would be underwater for at least a year and half until he's back to pitching. You said no. In order for anyone who bought recently to not be underwater, his prices will have to rise significantly from where they are today.

I know there's zero chance because you don't have enough money to buy every single card that you would win today paying yesterday's prices

You clearly don’t understand buying grading selling.

Sure, prior to injury if you bought a TC 10 2 weeks ago you were already underwater 15% as of yesterday morning pre injury. Want to pay yourself on the back?

I’ll continue to buy clean raw and folks like you can view it as awful. Fantastic, more for me

I could care less about grinding nickels buying stuff to grade. You can do that with any player

And even more underwater today. Which is exactly what I said. Without pitching anyone who bought recently is going to stay there

I've been buying Ohtani since before you touched his cards, why would I ever think buying him is "awful"? He represents 90% of my card collection
