I don’t think this is the case. I’m not heavily invested in him but it’s a pretty easy buy when you can pick up topps chrome refractors for $12 and autos for $60. The hype alone will double those prices next spring training.

He will hit IF he can come back healthy. Multiple knee issues on a big guy like that is like multiple shoulder issues on a young pitcher. Super risky. Can definitely pay off, but can also definitely make people lose everything. I hope he is able to return though. I love his swing.

If the economy is looking decent in Feb/Mar I agree with this. Im kinda pessimistic as living in a city completely dependent on mass gatherings I think my outlook is becoming skewed.

He's pretty low risk high reward right now. I'm grabbing a few things at these prices, but mainly for my collection. I love a guy that can mash homers lol

Dropped most of my budget on a couple low serial number cards.

Got about 15 chrome coming from a break.

Quickly maxed my budget... haha

Wake me in 2026

Not without risk given persistent knee injuries. Really hope he can make it back strong.

Did I hit a nerve or something? I am not even dissing the guy. I am just speaking the truth, he has knee issues. Knee issues can end careers. Also, since you are the one who made the comparison, look up the stature differences between Mantle and Alvarez. Alvarez is carrying a lot bigger body on those knees. It matters, even if you want to turn a blind eye. And I have no idea what Tatis has to do with any of this.

Alvarez and Zion Williamson are basically the same case (on different scales, of course). When healthy, they have the potential to be the absolute best at what they do. The only things standing in their way are the things they stand on.

Lol I'm just an optimist
He could certainly be a bust and there's huge risk which is reflected in prices and so could anyone really, tatis lou bob who are lower risk but still injury prone etc
I'm just really hoping he comes back with 50 homers and 1000 plus ops, a man can dream lol

I think Tatis' back is a much scarier injury risk than Yordan's knee. If I'm understanding it correctly, Yordan kept putting off surgery to try to play through and he finally had surgery to fix the issue.

Or he could be the next Carlos Quentin, that dude could mash when he could play, bad knees.

Ill prob try and grab 10-20 PSA 10 Topps Series 1 rookies and see what happens, maybe some base chrome autos. This guys 2019 stats were unbelievable. He played 87 games and put up those numbers.

When I got the TC black autos of both Quentin and ConnorJackson I figured that was the safest route. I mean one of them will be HOF, right?

Still some of the nicest looking modern cards ever made.

You are correct-
And smashed bombs with bad knees. This surgery is notorious for making knees stronger...therefore he will be fine. I have been known to panic sell with injuries..and the majority have paid off but I refuse to panic sell this kid.
And I absolutely despise the Astros..

The risk is minimal. His injury history really isn't that long. He had an injury in the minors a couple years ago that may have been the start of this all and never got surgery. This isn't football or basketball where careers are completely dictated by knee health. He tried to play through and still mashed over 88 games. The guy is an elite bat that can DH his whole career.

Dude hit 50 homers last season on a bad knee. I expect 75 when he comes back!

We should temper expectations, I do believe he'll be a perennial threat to the HR crown and hit 40 plus when he's healthy. Along with that power, you're looking at a .300 average. Key thing is health, those that don't believe should sell now. I don't see prices higher for awhile and can see them dropping another 50% by the time he's healed up.
