Same. I think he's probably right it'll be the 300 card checklist. No way I'm opening this with that checklist. Might have to be one of those guys and list it now to save some cash.

It won't sell out. They have enough for every member to get their 2

Wait, I'm lost, is this set Topps Update Sapphire, or Topps Chrome Update Sapphire? The cardboardconnection checklist suggests that this is the Sapphire version of the Topps Update set, while the link on the Topps checklist page suggests that this is the sapphire version of the Target exclusive Topps Chrome Update set, which are two completely different sets. However, on the Topps Checklists page, the filename for the page that the "Topps Chrome Updates Sapphire" links to is actually 2020ToppsChromeUpdateChecklist.pdf, and actually says nothing about it being Sapphire at all(which all the other sapphire releases do say). It's very possible that somebody at Topps made a mistake and is linking us to the Topps Chrome Update checklist, as it's somewhat suspicious that this set just completely mirrors that set with no differences whatsoever, which isn't how Sapphire usually works.

If cardboardconnection is incorrect, where did they get this checklist from? Did they just make it up? This isn't a checklist that exists anywhere else. And if the Topps one is correct, does this checklist just completely and totally mirror the Topps Chrome Update set? I didn't think the sapphire sets did that.

Can any of you all verify that the checklist you get linked to when you purchase actually says Sapphire in the title? Because if not, it might not be the correct checklist. Or maybe it is, who knows! What a confusing set.

I guess it doesn't really matter either way, since I was going to skip this anyway. But I guess I just wanted to actually know what I was skipping here!

I picked up 2 since I collect wax, but have another account and am hesitating.....Someone convince me why I should pick up the other 2. I know anything basically at MSRP these days is a decent deal, but I have probably spent too much this year already and the buzz hasn't been that great. Would hate for this to climb up to UEFA numbers though and not have bought the other 2. Thoughts??

This won't grow anything close to UEFA numbers. Best case scenario it gets to $300 a box. But just as good of a chance that it falls below $200 and never gets back above it if the checklist is actually the 300 card set.

I don't see how the Topps checklist can be right... It makes no sense at all. 100 cards in the set but over 100 autos?

The Topps checklist is just TCU... The cardboard connection one makes more sense

My best guess is that this is topps chrome update 100 card set but the auto list on topps is incorrect.

The fact that they gave it to Target to release 1st makes me think (and really hope) this is in fact the topps chrome update set that is being done in sapphire. Would make a lot more sense also since sapphire is sort of a chrome parallel.

Target webmaster probably jump the gun by a day. The Topps email doesn't say it's a club exclusive, just "First available to 2021 582 Montgomery Club Members". There may be a lot of this stuff printed if it's available direct to Target.

Yeah, that's what I thought at first too(why else would Target get this?!?), but they didn't make a sapphire version of the Topps Chrome set this year, right? The "Topps Chrome Sapphire" that came out was actually just the Topps flagship set that had the Topps Chrome logo on it. Why would they make Sapphire versions of Topps and Topps Chrome Update and not sapphire versions of Topps Chrome and Topps Update? Doesn't really make a lot of sense*.

I think I have unearthed the problem with this, which is that when Topps sapphires their flagship set, they just label it "Topps Chrome Sapphire", right? So if they were going to sapphire their Topps Update set, they'd call it Topps Chrome Update Sapphire. Unfortunately, if they were going to sapphire their Topps Chrome Update set, they'd also call it Topps Chrome Update Sapphire. So it'd be the same name. That's really damn confusing! It's honestly entirely understandable if the webmaster just saw the Topps Chrome Update checklist and figured it was probably the same as the Topps Chrome Update Sapphire checklist, even though that could be a fundamentally different set.

I think this is pretty hilariously confusing stuff, and at this point I actually still have no idea at all what this set actually is. It is worth point out that there's a pretty huge difference in the potential value of a sapphire Topps Update set versus a sapphire Topps Chrome Update. Some pretty stellar names in that Topps Chrome Update autograph checklist(Rivera, Koufax, Jeter), and very few totally dud garbage names in the base set as well. If the cardboardconnection checklist is accurate, however, I think you're getting a very different product with a substantially higher failure rate as far as those per-box results go, as you've got a lot more Andy Burns types who hasn't been on an active major league roster since 2016.

*unless topps is prepared to acknowledge that topps update really sucked and that topps chrome update was fundamentally superior for a sapphire set, but i doubt the topps company possesses such powers of introspection

I can’t see Target selling this at $150 a box.

Edit: Nevermind.

Just saw this on Twitter.
not sure how accurate it is. Take it with a grain of salt.

"Per Topps Customer Service:

They did NOT okay this release from Target.
They are just now finding out about the release (my call was the first they had heard of it)

All target orders are being cancelled as this is a 582 first exclusive for 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire"

You saw folks here buying them 2 at a time on Target for $149.99 per box at around 5:30am Pacific time right? Looks like all those orders are going to be cancelled now though.

Doubt it unless it effects what they have on hand to fulfill 582 orders

Still undecided on buying or not. I don't know if I have ever asked for buying advice on this forum in close to a decade. But the checklist, auto checklist, name of the set, whether there will be thousands of boxes sold by Target. I couldn't be more clueless. I don't wanna buy if its not a good long term hold, at least double your money in 12-18 months, or something I can flip right away for after fees at least $25 a box.

My thought is you will never be able to walk in and buy these anywhere at this price so I got Two, of course sapphire helps and I got 30 dollars off.

Seems a pretty big misunderstanding if Target wasn't supposed sell these.

Even if not flooded by target, the autograph checklist being well over 100 subjects is absurd lol.

I was on the fence too at first since the checklist may not be correct. And then I realized that worst case is you can sell and get your money back.
