He’s 4-0 with a sub 2.00 ERA. You’re confusing hobby with actual ability in the field. Right now he’s performing better than many other “stars”

Oh wait, they all had TJ surgery.

First off Suarez (most years) typically sits like 94 and touches 96 and throws 93 sinkers. Let’s take a minute to laugh at the notion that this is slow.

Secondly if you could have 4 years of peak Degrom and 2 years of Degorm on IL or 6 years of healthy Suarez you take Degrom and it’s not close.

Degrom could still easily prove to be the most valuable pitcher in baseball this year even if he throws 50 innings. Becuase if he is healthy in September the rangers just win the World Series again. And you can only make statements like that with guys that have Degrom/Mason miller type stuff where if they are healthy and on they are literally unhittable.

As good as Suarez is this year he will never be unhittable and that potential upside is worth the risk

Then there are other guys. Braves said Lopez throws 100 go ahead and start absolute stud. Angles said Soriano you throw 102 go ahead and start future absolute stud. Sox has crochet you throw 100 go ahead and start possible future stud. Giant said hicks you throw 100 go ahead and start another stud

Jesus, who cares. The point is the guys I listed are injured. You guys need to take a break from Porn Hub and your fantasy league for a bit and get some Vitamin D.

Like I said, he's a very good pitcher. That doesn't make him a star. Stars have a wow factor. Stars are the players people are tuning into to watch. That's not Ranger.

It has nothing to do with the hobby.

WL record stopped being an important stat a while ago. Zach Wheeler has a sub 2.00 ERA this year with a losing record. The metrics also say he's been a better pitcher this year than Ranger. Can't win games if your offense doesn't score any runs while you're in the game

Spencer Strider led the league in wins last year.

Wade Miley barely averages 90 mph on any of his pitches and just went down. It's almost like these injuries can get anyone.

There are VERY few current "star" pitchers in major league baseball, if any.
Much less any considered "hobby good" by card people.
That said they still hold the greatest ability to affect the outcome of a game.

Mileys also 37 and has never had it I don’t believe. Looks like maybe Jesus Luzardo now too.

I am worried about my team’s Opening Day Starter / Ace in this regard. The other day he threw a 99mph heater at the #8 hitter, sporting a .270 SLG, with no one on base and the Ace’s team up by 5 runs. I kind of failed to see the point of that. Results are great to be sure. But for how long?

It’s been making me think about Justin Verlander in that his velocity would increase as the game went along, until by the 7th he could still add 2mph to any pitch he wanted, when he -needed- to, situationally.

I do think there is something to the recent trend of every fastball is thrown full throttle. That has to add stress to the arm compared to throwing at less than 100% in the early innings. But the game has changed. Teams want starters to go full out for 5-6 innings then turn it over to the bullpen.

Is Alek Manoah next? Right elbow discomfort made him leave in the 2nd inning.

Josiah Gray of the Nats is the latest to undergo TJ. Not even a flamethrower.

He needed an internal brace as well. A long road to recovery awaits.

Hope he can find his way back.
