I don't think they are both on the roster by the end of the season. You have Darnold as your veteran back up.
Just imagine the hobby whiplash if it’s Lance starting over Purdy.

Guessing that only happens if Purdy has set back and can't play.

All I can add to this thread, is I remember when the 49ers suckered the Bears back in 2017. When the Bears wanted to move up to pick Trubisky. The 49ers were laughing in Chicago's face. And more so after a few seasons. Cost the Bears a few 3rd and 4th rounders.

Flash Forward to the 2021. The 49ers and the Dolphins agreed to a trade in which San Francisco would move up to No. 3 to grab Lance, and send Miami its pick at No. 12, as well as first-round selections in 2022 and 2023, and a third-round pick in 2022.

That was three 1st round picks + a 3rd to get Trey Lance.

Solomon Thomas also sucked

If that helps

Which is ironic as he's been working out with.....Mahomes this offseason.

Honestly, I think Purdy simply had a hot-stretch and they should stick with developing Lance but that's just me.

You are right about Purdy. Super overrated
You are wrong about Lance. He sucks

Niners should have been the first team to figure out how to get Lamar (and I hate that guy)

But batting .500

Bears and, worse yet, Browns fans critiquing a team that has been to 3 conf games and a SB the last 4 years. Maybe a Lions fan can lend sone insight, as well.

Hilarious.

How many SB's have you won in the last 4 years? Same as the Browns?

Rhetorical

It's all the same if you don't get the ring

But good luck with the overrated QB's

You do seem like a moral victory kind of person (kidding - I'm just poking the bear)

Don't follow niner news much in the offseason, but saw today there were preliminary discussions with the Vikings.

35 yr old QB who the new GM didn't select and obviously not in love with. Wouldn't be a bad buy low option, especially if Purdy is ready Week 1 and returns to form, for aflier before the deadline.

I don't think anyone knows what Lance is at this point, just not enough tape. Someone will bite if the 49ers move on.

"#49ers TE George Kittle on QB Trey Lance: “I’m not gonna lie to you guys, he looks significantly better than last year.” Kittle said Lance seems to be having fun and happy on field again."

You dont even have to be a fan, to know what they gave up for Trey, and what Trey has done so far. Is a bad deal.

But I'll tell you what is hilarious. A 49 fan trying to deflect on this topic!

We all know you'd rather have Fields (Bears) Watson (Browns) or even Goff (Lions) instead of Lance. Maybe then, your team would have won the title the last 4 years.

Don’t think I was deflecting so much as posterizing you and asujbl with a reverse slam dunk.

Fields, Watson, Goff? Come on, son… none of those guys have been doing much winning.

Who needs Lance when you’ve got Purdy?

It’s hard to hear you over all the winning.

How many Super Bowls have you won, ever?

(This is all in fun, of course, no offense taken or meant).

Cant really say its a bad deal just yet, Lance had what 2 games before he got hurt? I still think he gets a shot especially if Purdy isn't fully ready. They gave up way to much to get Lance to just hand it over to Prudy based on 5-6 game streak. Plenty of QBs have flashed on 4-5-6 game streak only to fizzle out the rest of their career. And I like Purdy a lot but I also think you could throw just about anybody at QB on this team and do well because they are stacked top to bottom on both sides of the ball.

The Lance trade was a dud.

No one wants Goff, Watson or Fields either.

And yes, Kyler sucks.

I am hearing that Goff is going to the Super Bowl, Fields is going to the Hall of Fame and Watson is going to Prison.

But we all agree Kyler sucks...

I didn't realize we were playing 1 truth and 3 lies

Actually I guess it should be more like two truths and two lies

I think the Niners are done with him. I also think the HC thinks he "can get any QB" to get him to the Super Bowl. While I think Purdy might turn out to be a good/above average QB, I wouldn't bet the farm he is significantly better than a guy like Jimmy G. He is a bit more mobile, and I guess he aced his cognitive test or whatever replaced the wonderlic. But I saw "a lot" of balls that were "shoulda been INTs" last year and he doesn't really have great enough arm strength to really challenge those tight windows. A year of tape and teams I think will have a better bead on what he does and what he can't do.

But back to Lance, yeah he gone.

Purdy was actually pretty good at avoiding turnover-worthy throws...

...almost as good as Colt McCoy!

LOL. I love these charts b/c in the end its some dude or set of dudes deciding what a turnover worthy throw is. Its all subjective. I have argued with a lot of Cowboys fans "Well Dak might have lead the league in INTS....but....they were all someone else's fault" I'm more of a "buck stops here" kinda guy though.

While I don't know how they decided these stats, it may be less subjective than we think.

There may actually be ways to calculate probabilities of things occurring if you feed AI enough data. I imagine that's how those numbers are calculated when you see on TV "probability of making that catch was X" and it was provided by Amazon.

And wait...

You're putting a cumulative chart together that compares a guy who attempted 132 throws with a guy who attempted 699 throws with nothing to denote the difference between the two?

This chart is ignorant. If one of my analysts presented this to me I'd ding him on his annual review for it.
