Any thread with GOAT title ends up with MJ and LBJ comparison. Since this is BO and opinions are subjective, here are some interesting takes on this topic (Great vs Better)

Disclosure: I collect both MJ and LBJ.

Okay troll, I guess you ignored both my points about 1) NBA made hand-checking illegal AFTER his prime, and
2) the spacing [and pace] of today's game vs 2000.

There's a reason his fg% went up 10% vs when he was 7 years older than his MVP season. Hand-checking [putting two hands on the dribbler to stop his penetration] was now illegal. AI was no longer in his prime at 32 even though he avg'd 26.5ppg that year.

Using the same 10% FG improvement he'd have averaged 35ppg from 2000-02, before an add'tl improvement for being 7 years younger /in his prime.

With more fouling being called he'd also have averaged more than 10 FTs/game he got his MVP season, for instance the year before to year after hand-checking was outlawed his FTs went up over 20% per game.

That's easily 40ppg+ seasons on those 76ers teams. Add in more space under the basket he could perhaps do 45-50, & given faster pace of play today than in 2000 - 10% more shots per game now. Just using factual data and applying it to his stats you get 45.6 ppg before the benefit of spacing.

Go back to tugging on Bill Simmons.

That’s way too complicated of an analysis for a troll like me.

I do agree Iverson would try to score 50. Whether he would or not is another question.

Forget the rules holding him back. Imagine how good he would be if he PRACTICED!

Well back to tugging. Have a good one

So can we get some explanation as to how the Beard ended up with some 3.6 MVP Award Shares for his career which is like 12th all-time. In his prime was he really that good of a (regular season) player?

By most accounts he was. It’s unfortunate because even in the good times his style annoyed a lot of people but there were a few seasons where he was arguably the best offensive player in the league. I didn’t know his shares were 3.6 but I would guessed Over 2 if asked.

harden was very good as his peak. during his 6 year peak he averaged 31/6/8. his legacy would look much different if the would have won a title/fmvp in 2018 when the rockets were up 3-2 on the warriors in the wcf before paul getting injured and missing the last 2 games.

Harden is a defensive legend, just like Pepsi Clear was a legendary drink

He was the best at taking advantage of the broken rules. He’s lost a step, but the bigger problem for him is that people are allowed to guard him now.

He is not an all-time great. He’s an entitled quitter.

My sarcastic top 5 goats that most of you would actually agree with and secretly want to post but just can’t get the balls. So I’ll do it for ya

1 James Harden
2. Steph Curry
3. Klay Thompson
4. Jordan Poole
5. Draymond Green

Is Clay better than his brother Klay?

Don't you have to win something or to put up unworldly numbers to be considered the GOAT?

As it stands he is a goat similar to survivor contestants brought to the end because they have no chance of winning...

Harden did quit on the Rockets. And he was very good at flopping and drawing contact on shots to get foul calls. So the person who mentioned he took advantage of the rules is definitely true.

He was the best player on the Rockets. To say he was better than Durant on the Nets though is laughable.

I think he was meaning franchise all time teams. Olajuwon is above Harden for the Rockets.

It still doesn’t make much sense because he said the Nets. It’s sort of a strange comparison because suggesting Harden is the best player the Nets ever had (which is false) is like me saying Olajuwon is the greatest Raptors player.
