I think people are going to buy it for a few reasons: WNBA is growing in popularity if I'm not mistaken, plus cards in general are going bonkers, especially Prizm. This is the first year for Prizm- look at the NBA's first year. Prices are nuts. Also you have someone who many think will be the GOAT. Lots of reasons why this is getting (rightfully) hyped. May not be for you- but I would think it would do pretty well. 2020 FOMO is absolutely real and I bet it will extend to this product. And this is coming from someone who unfortunately has ZERO boxes.

WNBA is not growing in popularity. At all. It’s arguably never been less popular. It is a terrible league that is only alive because of the NBA. It is a financial disaster.

I believe TV ratings were up in 2018 and 2019. 2020 doesn't really count but I'm also pretty sure ratings declined less from a percentage standpoint than the regular NBA this season post-covid. At least this is true for the finals, which were down 50% in the NBA but up for the WNBA.

Also they're being supported and recognized on social media more than ever from current NBA stars, which is only helping.

Has there been no growth over the years? I haven't followed closely, but always hoped a women's professional basketball league could get some good momentum in the sport landscape. Is there anything to fix the lack of momentum? Is it a problem of not enough interest or faulty marketing, or bit of both?

The MLS was a financial disaster until a couple years ago, look at it now.
I think the success of the WNBA will surprise a few people in the next couple years.
TV and internet coverage of the non-Men's big 4 sports has completely changed in the last few years leading to major increases in revenue which trickles down considerably to these other sports.

Yeah, as a non-expert my vibe is that there is a lot of potential growth with the WNBA. I just don't know the ideal nuts/bolts strategies in terms of marketing and growing the league, but I feel like it's not necessarily a demand-side problem.

We have sold more WNBA Cards in the past year than we had in the past 3 combined.

We have also seen our international sales of WNBA Cards go up 349% compared to last year.

There’s potential for growth because the league is the bottom of the sports barrel. It’s like pointing at a penny stock and saying “but there’s room for growth!”. Finals ratings were up. Regular season ratings were down. The Finals averaged a whopping 440k viewers.

Some WNBA cards may be up. It’s not because the league is more popular. It’s just people speculating, looking to make a quick buck on the back of interest in WNBA Prizm. This has absolutely no staying power because the fan base is practically non-existent.

Curious to see how their value comparisons to the NBA prizm singles lines up over the next few months to a year. Shouldn’t even be in the same ballpark, but I’ll be rooting for the ladies.

Side note: This might go over people’s heads but the implementation of a band in the NBA and especially the WNBA might make it more palatable for viewers. I’ve been a proponent of this for decades but with lost revenue to consider it hasn’t come to be. People that attended many college games like I have will understand. It’s just another level of excitement. I’m not saying this is going to solve the WNBAs problems of course but I’d be more willing to tune in from time to time considering how it adds to the atmosphere of the game. The WNBA continues to try and be innovative as they should to survive, so why not this.

They’re real lucky the have the muscle of the NBA behind them As it stands I’d rather watch women’s college basketball in March than the WNBA during their playoffs. Neither I currently have watched over the last few years unless by accident.

Personally if you want to increase viewership for women's basketball you gotta quit holding yourself to male standards... Lower the rim to 9' and start seeing women with some insane dunks like the men and that league will pop off. Nothing anybody gets more bored of than a perfectly fundamental lay-up 40 times a game without ever seeing some rim rocking dunk.

It'll never gain traction without increasing the entertainment value because as it stands it is incredibly boring to watch and I only watch it for white noise in the background at night to help me sleep.

Just change the league to promote more points and higher intensity plays and it'll definitely improve with viewership.

Stopped in at the lgs today to see if could order something else in, and they got a case of the wnba prizm in.

We ripped box for examples and singles for the shop, got alot of the bigger names,

Ionescu - base, hyper, silver
Plum - base and blue
Sue Bird - base, red and purple

The crazy thing with the product and I kind of wish they did it the regular NBA, there are no cracked ice colored/numbered parallels just non numbered silver cracked ice cards

What is the big difference between retail and hobby? Just assuming retail won't have the cracked ice. And probably won't have most (all?) of the colored/numbered parallels. Big chase in retail presumably going to be the base silvers.
