Potential new Trout buyer here. How much are you guys expecting his cards to drop during the offseason? I won't pick up very many if I buy some, but the ones I'm most interested are:

2011 Bowman Sterling (would love a refractor too) <----- by far my favorite of the Trout RCs
2010 Topps Pro Debut
2011 Topps Pro Debut
2011 Finest (would love a refractor here too)
2011 BC & BC Draft (also like these refractors)
2011 Topps Update

Just looking at PSA 10s.

His 2009 Bowman Xfractor and Refractor Auto's have dropped 30-40% from their peak few months ago. Not sure how much more they will drop in off season. Has stock market anything to do with sports card trading prices? The reason I am asking is because most analysts are expecting a 30% stock market correction the next few years (2019-2020). Perhaps the people who have been trading sports cards for long time know better whether stock market trends, unemployment, etc., have an impact (if any) on sports card trading prices.

Incredible line up of cards posted. Tough to pick a top 5 but mine would look something like this.

I change my mind on a weekly basis but my favorite Trout card is the '11 Topps Update. I picked these up this year from fellow board members:

A close second is the '11 Finest Auto. I have always been partial to the orange.

The red ink autos are under appreciated in my opinion. This one is my favorite:

Last but not least is Trout's key card. This card always jumps off the screen whenever one is posted.

Thanks for taking a look. I was a vintage collector since returning to the hobby but have been rejuvenated since I changed my focus to Trout. It has been a fun ride so far. Keeping up with the Trout threads here have been a blast.

This was discussed in the previous thread.... what type of plastics do you guys use to put your BGS and PSA Trouts in? I dont remember but I remember it was an overwhelming response and everyone said they used the same product.... sorry I dont recall what those were, looking to pick some up to prevent scratching on the cases

Long time, first time. Love reading about the hobby here. Always buy a bunch of Update, had no idea I had it and found it in a box a few years ago. Put a decent sized smile on my face. Just got it back from Beckett about a month ago.

Very nice dberk. The 2016 Topps heritage Red Ink Auto is one of my favorites as well.

I am waiting for Perfect Fit Sleeves to be stocked again. Best sleeves you can get for PSA cards. I need about 200 of them.

Thanks
Was told if it was put on the market not to take less than $6k because it's a "high 9".

The card has so much helium to it that I'm really curious when it slows down.

I’m as bullish on Target Red Update RC as anyone, but that sounds really high to me. IMO 4500+ is more realistic

I would take this as more realistic. Jjeanius has the prices on Trout cards pretty spot on.

Yes. When the prices were at their peak this year, a gem mint Target Red Topps Update sold for $6877 on April 18th and another gem mint sold for $6009 on May 16th, both by PWCC. This puts a high BGS 9 value anywhere between $4,500-5000. Nevertheless, it's a scarce and beautiful card!

Prices weren't peaking in April (or May) this year - they were peaking late June right up until the National in early August. But there weren't any reds that surfaced during that timeframe, so it's hard to say what their peak value really would have been (though it's safe to say prices would have been even higher if anyone had chosen to cash in on the madness at that time).

One of the challenges with the Target Red (and Hope and Black) is that it's rarity can actually be a hindrance to its own market growth. Gold and Blue (for example) surface frequently enough that it's easy to point to sales data from April through late July that demonstrates a 2x - 3x runup during that time...which then makes it easier for buyers to pull the trigger at those prices because there is concrete sales data to back up those price points. On the other hand, if you try to sell a Target Red in late July for 2x - 3x the April and May sales prices when there aren't a bunch of "step up" comps to justify the price increase, buyers are going to balk (even though it stands to reason that Reds should also be appreciating at roughly the same rate as every other Update parallel that does have a stack of comp sales to look at).

Also, FWIW: The $6877 sale on April 18th was for a true gem, which is largely why it sold for 15% more than most recent sales at the time.

PCP: I know you mean well, but the information that you are providing is often faulty and/or incomplete. This is not entirely your fault - it's largely a result of you being so new to the hobby yourself. That being said, your posts often have this air of "market expert stating fact", and I think this does a lot more harm than good. IMO you (and other unassuming readers) would be better served if you acknowledged just how little you truly know about Trout's market, rather than adopting a "scholarly" attitude based on a few months in the hobby. Just about every single other person in this thread has more knowledge and experience collecting Trout than you do...and you could stand to learn quite a bit here if you would acknowledge that fact rather than acting like you've already got it all figured out. Unfortunately, as cool as it is to have bought and sold first edition Harry Potter books, that doesn't automatically make you more knowledgeable with baseball cards. Sometimes it's much more important to be aware of what it is that you DON'T know.
