Can't argue with that. I thought the same thing with Judge but he still came through with 62!

My hope now is 50. That would still be fantastic!

Let's go back to what got everyone so worked up after nearly 600 pages of this thread:

Hammer posted: "I know I've said this before, but the number of innings that end with him in the on-deck circle is just astounding."

In response, I posted: "When you're on a team that sucks...that happens."

So where's the problem? Ive given nothing but compliments to Ohtani for the past couple of seasons. The Angels blow. I stated a fact.

If this thread and every other player thread is suppose to be just about the cards, then every player thread can be shut down less than 24hrs after its creation. Talk about trolling. I stated something that everyone has stated for the past 10+ years. But today, Im the troll.

Where's all this negative energy coming from? Sho went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a walk. Still showing premium exit velos. Guy will heat up again in the homestand on Thursday. His homers come in bunches!

No idea. Someone pissed in some Cheerios this morning. Heck I placed a bet yesterday that Sho would hit a homer against my Braves because the board was calling for it.

Agreed Brando, you ain't at fault here. Your Shohei takes have always seemed on the level to me. And yes, as much as it pains me, the Angels suck. Maybe all these new pieces will come together somehow....we need Giolito to find himself again.

So you are trolling me. Stating that Matt is now 2 homers behind Ohtani is a negative? So nobody here in the Ohtani thread would want to know that? We've all been following every single Ohtani homer and total, daily. I've been cheering for him to hit 63 all season. Wow!

50 is a given I thought after he hit a few in a couple of days 62 was becoming quite the possibility. Ever since Chapman yelled at Schneider in the dugout for the Bluejays pitching to him things changed.

I am a Yankees and Judge fan and it wouldn’t bother me if Ohtani hit 63 just not so soon after Judge broke Maris’s record that stood for 61 years. Kind of like Alonso beating the 52 home run rookie record with 53 one year later also.

Sho doesn't need to hit 60 to be amazing. We need to detach ourselves from records and just enjoy what he's accomplishing.

Hey...don't post that Maris and Judge crap in this thread.

I for one hadn't realized Matt was so close at this point so appreciated the info.

On another note, one of the times when I got back into the hobby was in 2013. I bought a few packs of 2013 Bowman. Don't remember if it was Draft or Bowman, but anywho I pulled a Matt Olson Purple Refractor Autograph. Didn't know what I pulled, guy that worked at the shop raised his eyebrows and said "wow, yeah that's pretty good."

A few years later I was inspecting it one day out of the toploader. Dropped it on the wood laminate flooring from a standing position, boom bottom 2 corners dinged. Sick to my stomach.

A few years after that I decided to sub a few cards with BGS, included the Olson. Completely forgot about the dropping the card trauma, blocked it out of my baseball card mind apparently. Got it back, think it got an ExMt 6. Memory comes flooding back. Sick to my stomach.

Shortly after, got out of the hobby again but this time I sold off basically my whole collection including the Mattie Purple BGS 6. Sick to my stomach.

Wish I had that card back - I'm sure someone cracked that slab lol.

It would be historic for sure and I'd be over the moon if he accomplished that. I tend to think in terms of progression, 40/50/60 more than potential end result, 63.

Being able to watch Shohei EVERY GAME (that's he playing) is mind-blowing, just like watching Judge's run last year. We are living in an amazing electronic world!

I have a love hate relationship with technology being an older person. I love that you can get any information or watch anything at the drop of a hat but I do miss out on the face to face conversations and being able to put a face to a thought. I want to see that person I would love to have a beer with and talk sports.

A funny anecdote (I think), especially if you play fantasy baseball.

Had a guy offer me Acuna for my Ohtani. I declined and asked for a pitching upgrade to go with Acuna.

I said "imagine being able to move Acuna over to SP when you need to"....he says "what do you think I've been doing all night". haha!

I hear ya! Where I work, we have military active duty on one side and retirees on the other for their care. All the young uns are on their phones while all the retirees are having conversations. It really is quite a dynamic to see.

I miss rotary phones with no answering machine!

But I'd rather watch Shohei and others than merely look at box scores in the Stars and Stripes newspaper.

That sounds interesting. I told my wife my son would never have the anxiety I had in my teen years getting up the nerve to call a girl for a date. When I was young I used to love listening to radio broadcasts of a game, I still do it once in awhile but it’s just not the same.

I never had that opportunity growing up as my Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed overseas for 13 years. We'd sometimes get a game on AFN (Armed Forces Network), but it would be on way past my bedtime - LOL

You know, I might just go radio broadcast for the Angels game tomorrow night. Hear the crack of the bat as ShoTime goes 3-4 with 2 long dongs (that's what she said).

First of all thanks for serving and what’s funny is you really can tell by the crack of the bat whether a ball will be a home run.

I was on an unaccompanied tour in Okinawa in '95 when they finally offered cable TV and I was thrilled to subscribe. Came back to the barracks and all they showed was cricket & soccer highlights... ESPN International

Already being a day ahead with no Stars & Stripes weekend edition, 3 day old box scores were a godsend... Fort Buckner autovon operators only had 25 function switches lines to place calls from our base to others on the island. Rotary phones suck!!!

Then again there was this kid playing for the Orix Blue Waves named Suzuki who was pretty good and it wasn't Kurt.

Ours was the FEN (Far East Network) better known as the Forced Entertainment Network. 0200 NFL games on Monday morning were the worst, especially since it was also typhoon season and we'd go into TC-1 lock down going into the weekend, the majority of the storms would never hit, and first thing Monday morning key personnel would have to report back in for recovery - albeit drunk.
