Default Elly De La Cruz

…and that’s not hobby boom drop off. That’s major call up hype coupled with instant performance followed by poor performance…drop off. Elly and prospects moving forward will follow more of a pre-boom pattern. Hype, Call Up, Drop Off. Sell during the hype to call up stages. Don’t wait to see if they then perform.

Sure sure sure but the next guy will be different. And the guy after that? Even more different.

Elly has a very bright future but his card prices were insane. Not every guy is 2012 Mike Trout.

This is a very accurate description of every single prospect coming up, and what happens when they fizzle. I remember when so many were the “next” HOF great only to be the next “what if” or “oh well”.
Just in the past few years we’ve seen it with Gleyber, Eloy, Vlad Jr, Robert etc (Robert seems to be figuring it out and there’s still time for Vlad to bounce back). De La Cruz may figure things out and become a star, and if he does it will be good for the game. But if he doesn’t it won’t be anything new.
Collectors want these young guys to be next “it” guy and that’s fine, but it’s hard to stay consistent in this game from season 1 to season 5 even. Trout set the bar high. I’m sure the next prospect to be the next “insert HOF player here” is right around the corner.

The thing is…most of the better influencers & investors that pumped how great he is and will be long term…are probably already out of Elly cards. They sold the story to the next guy. And that’s the guys that currently have his stuff at the super inflated prices.

I took his reply as a bit of sarcasm and your reply as to why there is so much back and forth garbage on here. I guess it's all a matter of how we interpret things.

I've found that as a rule of thumb if I'm seeking out value buys, I don't buy anyone who has a player specific thread on the first page of this forum. I'll buy an Elly once the big money ball gets yanked into orbit around one of the Jacksons.

Default Elly De La Cruz......ouch

How many are regretting their De La Cruz purchases over the past 1-2 months? I just wish I had the cards during that time period to sell the overhyped Red.

I've taken a few big L's on Wander stuff. It sure seems like pitchers are figuring out De La Cruz so hopefully he will adjust. Hitting is hard obviously.

to compare De La Cruz to Ohtani is like comparing Kirk Cousins to Pat Mahomes.

21 year old kid ~60 games into his career. Yep, dump him.

While we're at it, time to give up on Osleivis Basabe. He only knocked in 4 runs on that Grand Slam last night. What a loser.

No kidding. I pulled a /5 2020 auto in late 2020 where the highest offer I got was $250.

It would insta sell today if I listed it on eBay for $1500 BIN

Never said dump him.....just the $$ spent on him seemed ridiculous and he'd have to be a hall of famer to make it worth it.

A gold refractor auto still sold for an awful lot of money - the speculators are still out there as long as he stays healthy and dates people his own age.

Am I allowed to say “Zion - ouch” here in a feeble attempt to rejuvenate his cardboard from the dead?

Card prices aside just keep firing the under .5 hits vs any elite starting pitcher. Often around +175 was +150 vs ohtani today. Then can use the winnings in off season to free roll all the cards you want and can’t go wrong

The same could be said about all the hot prospects.
