With football on the way and the national soon in rearview, those buying should be holding longer term (into 2024, at least). One of the highest floor (and ceiling) players. Can't take away the otherworldly feats already in the books and the legend will only grow if he shows longevity or post season prowess.

Truly a golden era for baseball.

Friends,

I missed the boat on Ohtani rookie cards. I didn't open at all in 2018 as life took some turns.

I have a good buddy who's just getting the card disease and absolutely loves Ohtani.

We are planning a big rip together before we go to a game on the 12th, and I've secured a big surprise for the end of it. A jumbo and a regular hobby of 2018 Series 2.

No sealed wax investment here... we ripping haha. I should have them in hand today. Very pumped up.

Yesterday was wild.

Any thoughts on current value? It’s so hard to comp since he’s goes up and down by the day and this rarely seems to sell

I’m not saying it’s some crazy amount, I know what recent comps are, it’s just like one or two sales a month is all

PSA 10s of the 2018 Bowman Chrome base are selling at $1,400. They were selling for $600 for less than 2 months ago. That amount of growth in that period of time is crazy.

Baseball card market is a lot like the art market. It doesn't take many people to manipulate things.

If he leaves the Angels and signs with a big market team (Dodgers/Yankees), what does that do to the value of his Angels cards? Probably only boosts them, no?

And the frenzy to get parallels/autos of his first non-Angels card...

They were selling for $1,400 during Covid so people trying to get their value back. Haha

This is exactly what I was trying to explain to people including PSA when they upcharged me. Just because it was a certain price. A year or two ago does not mean it should have gone up proportionally with other cards. Some stuff has gone up extensively, but a lot of Ohtani stuff is just getting back to 2021 levels right now.

I picked up a couple low-end Ohtanis about a month ago (2018 Topps Fire RC #150, 2018 Topps S2 paper rookie base #700) and it looks like they've both appreciated at least 50% just in the past month.

I buy for PC (though I have no heavy hitters like y'all), so I have zero concern on price. These are going to stay with me until the end! I'm just glad I got in on the 2018 BC before it shot up the past month.

One of my favorite Ohtanis, one of his first RCs, great image, was super hard to pull as an image variation only in Hobby Boxes. I think it has huge upside but I am not an expert just my opinion.

The 2018 bowman chrome has a weird cult. It is crazily priced imo. I'd much rather have that heritage action variation psa 10 than a base bowman chrome psa 10
