His 2018 Series 2 Black /67 PSA 10 just sold for $2,100 on auction.
I understand that many people prefer the Update over Series 2, but it seems criminally low for the black parallel of his first flagship card.

Why is it that people prefer Update over S2? Because Soto and Acuna came in the same Update? The image is not any better than S2.

Just needs reps. He's clearly capable of locating pitches - he was commanding really well for a couple innings.

yeah, i was going to say, there will always be the update crowd, but S2 will come out on top. i think that particular sale is just from people being weary of Ohtani being a two-way player, as they probably should be.

Just imagine how good he could be if he could even cut his walks in half. He's allowed just 7(!) hits in 18.2 IP. When he's throwing strikes he's nearly unhittable

S2 is the clear long term hold in my opinion. Both are great, but hard to ignore that Ohtani carried S2.

While I still believe in Series 2 supremacy over Update due to the card being his first flagship, I think people prefer Update due to below two reasons.

1. What others are already saying. The UPDATE brand. Trout, Acuna, Soto, those big boy RCs come from Update.

2. Series 2 is photoshopped, and his eyes look weird under the cap lid because Topps probably did a bad job trying to take the shadow out of that section.
Photo itself, I prefer the Update way over Series 2. I wish the Update photo was used on Series 2 instead, though it was probably not possible due to not having the photo at production stage.

Seems like every other day there are some big ohtani RCs seeking in eBay. Today was the red heritage Auto and the black PSA. Any in particular you've slept on or just outgunned? What's gonna complete your collections?

How much was this when people stopped caring ?

I remember looking for 18 chrome autos because they were so hot at one point but they were still pretty expensive even at low points in Ohtanis hobby career
