I'd consider putting in an offer on the Bowman Platinum Variation that just hit eBay yesterday. Doesn't have the pedigree of other brands, but it's still a nice looking card that doesn't come up for sale often. Based on POP reports, I'm guessing a print run of <250. Sometimes it's nice to have a card that not everyone has.

Not fond of that as it leaves a double header on Thursday with Shohei pitching day after. Maybe he will be more fatigued and relaxed? I don't know.

I'd say maybe they'll sit him for game 2 on Thursday but he probably won't like that.

Depends how much time he spends on the bases I guess. Let's hope he hits a homer first swing for half his ABs

I don't doubt some people have had bad experiences but the nature of the internet - complainers are loud, while people who had good experiences are not - I think gives the false impression PSA is some horrible company that screws up constantly.
Most of the time it is correct and I happily pay it. These cases usually have comps that are straightforward and undeniably obvious.

They however can be defensive and myopic when there are no comps. I sub a lot of rare autos and /5s, /1s. They choose a stance and dig their heels into the sand. That's the problem I have. That said, I have had three encounters where they heard me out and waived the upcharge. So yes, it is possible for them to be reasonable in the absence of comps. They need a more transparent methodology in the absence of recent comps or should not upcharge at all, imo.

The supervisor associate I mentioned is another story though. While PSA is a big company, it only takes one person like that to erode a decade+ of trust.

That person needs to be fired...unbelievable that was attempted. Surprise there isn't some sort of employment policy against that.

Ohtani going to pitch game 1 tomorrow and hit both games.

Angels insiders are hinting that they won't trade him and will go all in this year.

Awesome! I hope it doesn't disrupt his routine!

Hey, if somebody wants to bump it to higher ups like Nat, I'll take it past the one yard line to corroborate the story. If a guy like that was in my organization, I would blast him then fire him. Huge liability.

Will see if Nat checks his messages.

I am of the opinion that Ohtani not being traded is the best thing for his performance this year. However, if the Angels get into the playoffs he may just resign with them, and I think it would be better for his career if he joined a team like the Dodgers.

If I was trying to give the most generous interpretation of the events I can possibly conceive of I'd say the guy was offering to cover the upcharge himself and find a creative solution to the problem, but even if that's true it's still incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional, and the fact that he's apparently a supervisor is doubly concerning.

And I agree that upcharges should only occur when there's a straightforward, obvious, recent apples-to-apples comp. If they're doing hand-waving or assuming anything that's completely ridiculous IMO.

I agree I'd like to see him finish the year with the Angels, but I feel like he's already halfway out the door after the season. Sure they've made a push this year but there's no reason to believe they'll continue to try this hard after they've locked him up to a long-term deal.

It could depend upon upcoming series vs Blue Jays. If they sweep, they will not trade him. But if they get swept, then looking at ~7 games out of last wild card spot. Should be an exciting week!

Shohei is allegedly OFF the trade market.

And that’s why the Angels have sucked and will continue to suck. Such bad management and decision making. They will regret this big time.

That's what they said on ESPN during the Atlanta-Boston game. The consensus is they won't trade him, he'll walk in the off season, and the Angels will lose big time.

Not surprised. At least this clears the way for another MVP!

Apparently all the offers were complete garbage, if that's the case you might as well keep him.

How many teams were really going to blow up their future just to get him for the rest of this season? Even if you're one of the teams in the running to be able to sign him long-term, why not just wait and get him as a free agent? (Potential counter-argument I've heard, maybe he's more willing to sign long-term with you if you trade for him now; obvious response, why on earth would he sign long-term with you after you just blew up your roster/farm system to get him?)
