To be honest, outside of hockey collectors, nobody knows epack exists. I constantly bring it up in the big Facebook groups when all the new hockey flip bois talk about how Bedard YG is only going to go UP (lol) and none of them have a clue epack exists.

to be honest, tons of people know epack exists. considering how small the "hockey collector" market is, there's certainly more "non hockey collectors" that "know epack exists". it's not like the majority of people who buy other sports have zero interest in hockey too.

it just sounds like you recently found out what epack is and somehow think its some hidden secret.

Noticing lots of Bedard YG on the B/S/T board. I think those who ripped and pulled to hopefully flip are learning fast that hockey is not like football/baseball/basketball. There are far more actual “collectors” I. The hockey arena and they/we are more patient and know prices are going to go down even more I also think many who have not bought one outright will do so once they try their hand at e-pack. The gem rate for PSA 10’s have dropped below 50%, 652/1495 my last check.

With the epack to PSA pipeline now (reasonably) well-oiled, it's the perfect storm of hype, print runs, and ease. Don't even need to go to the PO.

It's going to be an INCREDIBLE volume graded (for a YG).

But hot damn that's a massive amount of graded Bedards already. I wonder when the bottom falls out of the current pricing? I was never able to find retail in store so I plan on buying singles of Bedsy, but can't fathom paying what they are going for right now.

I really feel that Young Guns are an investment trap at this point. There is so much, and, as noted, the gem rate is higher due to epack.

Yes, they are and always will be considered "the" rookie card for each player; however, if you actually go and try to sell one you'll see that you have to compete with so many others looking to do the same thing. The only way to profit is take fliers on guys like and hope to hit a home run like a Tage or JRob, but those are unicorns. Otherwise, the price you pay nowadays already reflects baked in success, in which case your best hope is to ultimately break even, but with a big risk of losing $$.

I agree that anyone coming into the league with crazy hype won't likely be a good investment (if looking to flip) unless they far exceed expectations. Some others that come to mind as ones people could have turned big profits on: Pasta, MacKinnon (not sure what his market was right out of the gate as I never collected him), maybe Kucherov, Leon. But the current print runs make me wonder if you'll also see many of those opportunities dry up for YGs now.

Anyone who bought or pulled/graded a Matthews/Crosby/Mcdavid etc made profit I'm pretty sure lol just because people chose to buy Ovie due to the goal chase or whoever and didn't profit that's on them, it's not comparable to getting it initially. If Bedard pans out it won't be an "investment" trap, the investment traps were them convincing you Caufield, Beniers,Zegras etc were superstars to sell last few years product lol

Mackinnon high gloss just had it's highest ever public sale too so I'm pretty sure it made profit lol

I think grabbing parallels is going to be a play going forward. You are right in that there seems to be just a whackload of base YG's, and except for a few guys that hit out of the blue, the prices do already bake in expectations.

As long as UD doesn't screw up the product like Panini did with NFL and NBA and create like a gazillion random parallels, I actually don't mind the new serial number breakdown: 250, 100, 25, 10, 1

It creates different price points for collectors that can then go after whichever one makes sense for them budget-wise.
