Honestly, looking to buy a mountain bike and this will put a nice chunk in it. Ohtani is my PC, but want have been moving low end stuff because his market is feeling very pandemic era right now.

I don’t know about pandemic era, but this seems like one of those times, kinda like buying a QB right before he plays in the SB that I usually stay away from knowing it’s very likely a peak/bubble in pricing.

That said I have a couple thousand dollars worth of offers out right now on eBay on Ohtani’s lol.

Yea, pandemic era is the wrong term. Pre all star break 2021 is what I was thinking. Either way, great time to be a fan and collector of him.

Everybody's going bananas on the 2018 RCs, but there are some pretty sharp ones from 2019 onward in the $10 and under range which I've been picking up for fun.

The ‘19 chrome inserts and parallels are supreme. Dodging PSA up-charges…

I am getting the same vibes. Still holding strong for the offseason dip.

Right on! Enjoy the new bike.

my take on Ohtani is that he is quickly becoming bigger than the sport he plays.

There is no other living Baseball Player that is more globally popular than Ohtani.

He is becoming the MJ of Baseball.

Not to mention, he's in a walk year like Judge was and is clearly following his lead by betting on himself.

Whoever bought this in October/November 2021 for around $65k is likely a happy camper

I have a stack of 52 Ohtani RC's. They are mostly from Topps Chrome, Update, Chrome Update, Bowman Platinum (/150, ICE), Bowman, Optic (Bronze & Red and Yellow) Archives, Heritage and AG. A friend of mine wants to buy them all. I have them all cleaned and ready to ship to PSA. My historical GEM rate is around 80%. Besides the Bowman Platinum /150 and Ice, they are all Base cards.
I am leaning towards giving him a price of $5500. Does anybody think that that is too much or too little?

Little Khal, there is a PSA 10 TC Red sitting on Ebay for 120k OBO. A regular Red Sapphire is worth far less than that card.

An 83 PSA 10 Red just sold for $37.2k. That’s my comp pal.

You selling that Sapphire Red? I’ll wire you $25k right now and fly to you to pick it up.

Not enough information for that price.

It is starting to feel that way. Lots of outlandish rationalizing. Sellers looking to double their money in a month or two. Every sales post on FB includes some variation of "Prices will only go up!"

Right now he is the closest thing to a long term hold as you’re going to get. I would never compare him to the pandemic time period as too much stupid money was spent by newcomers who were only in it for the quick Buck and long term collecting was never their plan. They have already moved on to their next money making scheme.

With Ohtani it is not a race to see who is left holding the bag but more a case of who has the willpower to play the long term game. I have sold some of my high priced Ohtani cards but I got what I wanted for them and they helped clear up a couple of bills so it’s all good.

I have a bag with all my remaining Ohtani cards and none of them are for sale except for the few I have had on eBay for awhile. My son will be the benefactor as he is 25 right now and I figure if Ohtani just finishes his career healthy the value will always be there.

Ohtani bet on himself when he came over early from NPB...

The only one that hurt selling was the topps chrome rc autograph but I pulled it out of a 20 dollar blaster and got 2,000 for it so I will get over it. The heritage black refractor rc pulled from a hanger box hurt but not quite as bad.
