I played a lot. Got my speedruns down to around 11 minute clears. Also beat heat 32.

Nice!

I'll have to look, but I believe I'm currently at heat 4/5 for most weapons (slowly working my way up). I keep picking weapons based on which gives out extra rewards for each run. All are fun in their own ways. The continuing story is what keeps me coming back.

So far, my best time is sub-20 using the fists, which are probably my favorite weapon at this point.

The game is HUGE! At 100 hours I’m still not finished with it. I feel like I’m a little past halfway. It’s an incredible experience.

I like spears but fists are what I use for speedruns. Managed to get the platinum trophy. Heat 32 was absolutely insane but there’s an unlock for doing it!

First in that genre? Overwhelming at first but they’re great!

Commonly referred to as SoulsBornes. Brutally punishing with lots and lots of death. Usually involves dropping all your exp upon dying, but can retrieve from your corpse.

Ex. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Nioh, etc. Most recently Elden Ring.

Haven’t played any! Heard Dark Souks is good and obviously Elden Ring is all the rage now.

All great games but be forewarned that they are unrelenting in difficulty. I love that stuff but many are turned off.

There aren’t choices of difficulty?

Very nice. That will be my goal .

Yes, spears are super versatile as is the shield. I prefer the spears over the shield as the melee combos are a bit more fun. Offense >> Defense as long as you have some speed/dodge (with an Athena deflect boon or two).

Yeah it’s my first. I beat the first boss and got close to the second boss battle. I can’t stand having to start over while losing your stuff. I’ll give it another go when I get bored of gt7.

Nope! The unforgiving difficulty of the Souls games is a large part of their success. The games don’t hold your hand at all and will beat you mercilessly. Elden Ring is no exception, and I love it. Absolutely not for everyone but I can’t get enough.

Elden Ring is not only extremely hard but the map is beyond enormous and the game barely gives any hints as to where to go next. It relies heavily on exploration. My mind is blown by how much I’m still finding. The love and care that went into it is next level. Early game of the year front runner in my opinion.

I thought beating all of the god of wars on the hardest setting was tough…. Demons souls is just a whole different animal. I know I can finish it I just don’t want the anxiety and anger that will come with it right now. I’ll probably dedicate myself in a couple of months when I have a long stretch off from work.

It is indeed punishing. The feeling of accomplishment for beating insanely hard bosses is incredible though! But yeah, not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s why SoulsBornes basically became their own genre.

I just got a PS5. Elden Ring probably not the first game I should play? Haha.

What type of experience are you after? Difficulty level.

I enjoy open world type games. I like a challenge and don’t mind putting lots of hours into a game. Just put 80 into Ghost of Tsushima which I enjoyed although I don’t think it’s a hard game. But I have never played any of the games you mentioned in that genre.

I have a friend who was into Demon Souls game on PS3. He said it was frustrating at times with the difficulty. I watched him play it and something about the world/atmosphere just didn't grab me. Couple that with the difficulty and I just dismissed it.

Watched some gameplay of Elden Ring. The graphics of the world look fantastic. The couple boss battles I watched didn't look very good (or I should say fun). I will look a little deeper since this is getting great reviews everywhere. Your second comment is spot on. I think you either really love the frustation of the difficulty or hate it. Really no in between.

That is awesome that you got 100 hours into the game and still love it. Those make you feel like the game price is really worth it.

Roommate has been playing Elden Ring like crazy. I am a little behind... still have yet to get the game.

Don't get much time to game right now and when I do i gotta balance FIFA, Rocket League and Valorant already
